You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first pulled up to Villa Libre Mare – the name sounds a bit fancy for what turned out to be this wonderfully unpretentious place tucked away in Pefki. But here’s the thing about this little corner of Rhodes that most people don’t realize: Pefki isn’t trying to be Lindos or Rhodes Town, and that’s exactly why it works so well.

The villa itself feels like someone’s actual home that they’ve opened up to travelers, which I mean, is probably exactly what it is. There’s this lived-in comfort that you just can’t fake – the kind of place where the kitchen actually has proper olive oil (not some generic stuff) and the balcony chairs are positioned just right to catch the morning sun without getting blasted by the afternoon heat. The owner clearly knows this area inside and out, because honestly, the local tips they share are gold. They’ll tell you which taverna in the village square makes the best souvlaki (it’s not the obvious one with all the tourist signs), and more importantly, they know the weird bus schedule that actually gets you to Rhodes Town without waiting around for an hour.

What really got me was how quiet it stays here, even in August when the rest of the island is absolutely packed. Pefki has this sleepy village vibe that somehow survived the tourism boom – you’ll hear roosters in the morning and cicadas at night instead of scooters revving until 2 AM. The beach is literally a ten-minute walk down a path that winds through these gnarly pine trees (that’s what Pefki means, actually – pine trees), and by the time you reach the water, you feel like you’ve discovered something secret. The sand isn’t that powdery Instagram stuff, but it’s real and clean, and the tavernas right on the beach serve this incredible fresh fish that’s probably been swimming that morning. Parking is never an issue here either, which – trust me – is a huge relief if you’ve ever tried to navigate Rhodes Old Town with a rental car. The villa has its own spot, and there’s always space on the quiet streets nearby. Check-in was refreshingly normal too, no hovering or awkward small talk, just genuine helpfulness when you need it. I’d probably come back just for the peace of mind, honestly, knowing I could actually relax instead of constantly planning the next move or fighting crowds for a decent meal.

  Excellent place. One of the best accommodations I have ever stayed in. A well planned house with huge territory and garden. The villa is fully air-conditioned and equipped with everything you need. A well equipped kitchen with lots of kitchen utensils. Lots of dishes, dishwasher tablets, liquid soap, bin bags, washing powder etc. – absolutely everything is available. Everything is very clean – excellent cleaning, clean bed linen and towels. Nothing to complain about. Now imagine that this wonderful villa also has a very good location: 2 minutes walk to the nearest beach, 5-10 minutes walk to restaurants (there are many around), 5 minutes drive to beautiful Lindos. The host Nikos was very kind, was in touch and quickly solved a small problem with the Internet, which then worked perfectly. I highly recommend this place.
  
  What could be improved: The only downside to this place is that at some point you have to leave it. Come and stay here for a while – you won't regret it and you'll have a lot of wonderful experiences. Many thanks to Nikos and his brother George who made our holiday unforgettable.
