You know what caught me off guard about Villa Costazia? It’s this perfect middle ground between being close enough to Rhodes town that you don’t feel stranded, but far enough out in Kalithies that you actually get to breathe. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute drive from the medieval city, but when you’re sitting on your balcony in the evening, all you hear are cicadas and maybe the occasional goat bell from the hills behind the property.

The whole place has this relaxed family-run vibe that’s getting harder to find in Greece these days. The owners clearly live and breathe hospitality – they’ll remember your name after one conversation and somehow always know exactly when you need fresh towels or restaurant recommendations. Speaking of which, don’t let them talk you out of trying that little taverna they always suggest down the road toward Faliraki. It looks like nothing from the outside, but honestly, best lamb I had on the entire island. The rooms themselves are spotless and bigger than you’d expect for a four-star place – I had friends staying at supposedly fancier hotels in Rhodes town who were dealing with shoebox-sized bathrooms while I’m over here with a marble ensuite that actually has counter space for all your stuff.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a week. The air conditioning works without sounding like a helicopter, there’s plenty of hot water even during peak season, and – this is crucial – the Wi-Fi actually reaches the pool area. I spent half my mornings working from a lounger with my laptop, which sounds terrible but was actually kind of perfect. The pool itself isn’t huge, but it’s never crowded because they don’t pack people in like sardines. Plus, the water’s heated just enough that you can swim comfortably even in shoulder season. Parking’s easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Rhodes will tell you is not a given. The location on Eparchiaki Odos Kalithion might sound remote if you’re not familiar with the island, but you’re actually perfectly positioned – close enough to hit the beaches at Faliraki or Anthony Quinn Bay without the tourist circus, and when you want to explore the old town or catch a ferry to Symi, you’re not fighting traffic for an hour. I’d definitely go back, and that’s saying something because I’m usually the type who wants to try somewhere new every time.

  What could be improved: -Spülmaschine wäre wünschenswert, aber das wussten wir vorher und konnte durch hervorragende Restaurants im direkten Umland mit unglaublichen Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis ausgeglichen werden 🙂
