You know what struck me first about Vetus Vicinato? The name sounds impossibly fancy, but when you’re standing on Praxitelous Street looking up at this converted traditional building, it actually makes perfect sense – it literally means “old neighborhood” in Latin, and honestly, that’s exactly what this part of Rhodes Town feels like. You’re right in the heart of the medieval old town, where the cobblestones are worn smooth from centuries of foot traffic, and you can hear the morning call to prayer drifting over from the nearby mosque while Greek Orthodox bells chime from the other direction.

The location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to feel like you’re living in Rhodes rather than just visiting it. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Palace of the Grand Master – not the touristy entrance, but the side streets where locals actually cut through. Praxitelous runs parallel to the main drag, so you get all the convenience without the cruise ship crowds trampling past your window at 7 AM. The parking situation is… well, it’s what you’d expect in a medieval town (practically nonexistent), but there’s a decent public lot about a five-minute walk away, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. Everything worth seeing is within walking distance, and the narrow streets make you feel like you’re in some kind of historical movie set – except the Wi-Fi actually works and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a diesel engine.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to keep that authentic old-world charm while making everything actually functional for modern travelers. The rooms feel like they belong in these ancient stone buildings, but you’re not sacrificing comfort for atmosphere. The restoration work is impressive – they’ve kept original architectural details that most places would’ve ripped out decades ago. You can hear the fountains in the nearby squares at night, which sounds romantic until you realize it might keep light sleepers awake, but there’s something genuinely magical about falling asleep to the sound of water echoing off medieval walls. The staff clearly knows the area inside and out – they’ll send you to the bakery that locals actually use (not the one with the tourist prices) and they know which tavernas are worth the walk. That 9.9 rating isn’t just about fancy amenities – it’s because they’ve figured out how to make you feel like you’ve discovered some kind of secret hideaway in one of the most historically significant places in the Mediterranean.

  We stayed here for our honeymoon and Verolucy went above and beyond for us. We’ve been to Rhodes a number of times and even got married here last year but have never stayed in the old town. The location is perfect in the old town, a few minutes walk to Hippocrates square. There’s a coffee shop and supermarket nearby for nipping out. The shower was powerful, the bed very comfy with plenty pillows. The cleaner ensured we had fresh towels. The kitchen was well stocked. The courtyard was well lit for coming back at night or sitting out later on and the hot tub was lovely. Verolucy was very responsive and couldn’t do enough to make sure our stay was perfect. We will definitely come back!
  
  What could be improved: This is another positive for our host – during our stay we had terrible stormy weather a couple of days which led to a small leak in the bathroom ceiling. Again, our host was quick to respond to fix any issues in her property, she offered to put us up in a hotel elsewhere which was not necessary. The positive of this is that if anything happens, the host is very quick and considerate to fix any problems.

  Being full-time travelers, we always greatly appreciate it when an accommodation or host exceeds expectations. In this case, both far exceeded, and we loved our stay here.
  
  We had an opportunity to stay in both apartments (downstairs with courtyard, and upstairs with balcony) as we extended our stay in the medieval town of Rhodes.
  
  The communication with our host was beyond exemplary. We were able to get an early check-in given the ferry schedule, and our few minor requests (how to turn up the heater on the jacuzzi, for example) were responded to immediately. Lots of good recommendations were offered for Rhodes town as well as things to see around the island.
  
  The apartments themselves are very well appointed with everything we needed to dine in when needed. Both places were immaculately clean, and while we didn’t require it, housekeeping checked in to ensure we had everything necessary for a good stay.
  
  What could be improved: The showers in both apartments had a tendency to spray a bit outside the shower and getting the bath mat pretty wet. It was certainly manageable and not something that would stop us from booking this apartment again.

  Location is in the middle of Old Town near Red Gate, very quiet and perfect for sightseeing. Be aware that inside the historic Old Town nearly everything is closed during the winter months – we liked it very much!

  a gem located right in the middle of everything you might want to see in the medieval city. very closed to cafes & restaurants & sightseen of rhodos. host very welcoming & helpful, there are already leaflets with info of the city in the room & she is more than happy to offer extra details, very responsive & proactive. the apart seems new, very nice decorated, spotless, offering exactly what one might need. both me & my husband were impressed. definitely will be staying here when next time in rhodes! thank you
