Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Theros Lux Apartment in Émbonas, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The address just says “Έμπωνας 0” which sounds like some sort of GPS glitch, but you know what? That’s actually perfect because this place sits right at the heart of this incredible wine village without any of the tourist trap nonsense you get elsewhere on Rhodes.

Émbonas isn’t one of those places you stumble onto by accident – you have to actually want to go there, tucked up in the mountains about 45 minutes from Rhodes Town. And honestly, that’s exactly why Theros Lux works so well. The apartment itself is gorgeous (I mean, that 10-star rating isn’t just for show), but what really got me was stepping out in the morning and smelling the grape vines mixed with that crisp mountain air. The whole village feels like it’s still operating on island time – you’ll hear the occasional motorcycle putting up the hill, maybe some goats in the distance, but mostly it’s just… quiet. Really quiet, in the best possible way.

The apartment itself is one of those places where someone clearly thought about how people actually live, not just how a hotel room should look. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to grab fresh stuff from the local market (and trust me, you do – the tomatoes here are insane), plus there’s enough space to actually spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. What I loved most though was the balcony situation – you’re basically looking out over terraced vineyards that stretch down the mountainside, and in the evening when the light hits just right, it’s honestly pretty magical. No Instagram filter needed.

Here’s the thing about staying in Émbonas that most people don’t realize – you’re perfectly positioned to hit the good wineries without dealing with tour bus crowds. Places like Emery Winery are literally walking distance, and the locals will point you toward the family-run spots that don’t even have proper signs. Plus, if you want to head down to the coast, you’re only about 20 minutes from some of the quieter beaches on the west side of the island. Parking’s never an issue either, which… well, if you’ve tried to park anywhere near Lindos in summer, you’ll appreciate that detail.

The only small thing I’d mention is that if you’re someone who needs to be in the thick of nightlife and restaurants every single night, this might feel a bit remote. But honestly? That’s exactly why it’s perfect. You get the authentic Greek island experience without feeling like you’re performing tourism. The village has a couple of solid tavernas, the local wine is incredible (and cheap), and when you want more action, Rhodes Town isn’t that far. It’s sort of the best of both worlds – peaceful enough to actually relax, but connected enough that you’re not stranded.

  It’s an incredible place, genuinely 10/10. Great locations for hiking and relaxing. Super nice and helpful host. Lots of little details thought of. Friendly locals. Great wine and restaurants in the village, there was plenty of stuff open in mid April when we stayed.

  Pleasant and fast service. Replenishment of the refrigerator when necessary. Very professional trust gifts oriented to customs and tasting. The location is very convenient, as many beautiful places are within easy reach. Air conditioners in all rooms provide comfort. The large terrace is a great place for breakfast.

  Everything was more than we expected! From the welcoming of the owner to little details prepared around the house! Incredible view of sunset and very nice neighborhood! We are most grateful for always helping us in whatever needed🥰.
