You know what caught me off guard about The Red Door? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street in Koskinou where you’d never expect to find something this polished. I mean, Athanasiou Diakou is basically a local neighborhood road – the kind where Greek grandmothers still sweep their front steps every morning and cats claim ownership of specific doorways.

The whole place has this thing where it feels like someone’s really well-traveled aunt decided to open a boutique hotel. Everything’s thoughtfully done without being precious about it, if that makes sense. The rooms have these gorgeous traditional touches – I’m talking hand-painted ceramics and locally-sourced textiles – but then you’ve got proper modern bathrooms and WiFi that actually works (honestly, not always a given in smaller Greek properties). What really got me was the attention to small stuff: decent coffee setup in the room, blackout curtains that actually block light, and – this might sound silly – but towels that don’t feel like sandpaper. You’d be surprised how rare that combination is.

The location thing is interesting because you’re technically in Koskinou village, which gives you this authentic Greek neighborhood vibe, but Rhodes town is literally a ten-minute drive when you want the tourist action. Parking’s not a nightmare here either, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Rhodes old town with a rental car will appreciate. The beach at Koskinou is right there too – it’s not the most Instagram-famous spot on the island, but that’s exactly why it’s better. Less crowded, more locals, and the tavernas actually serve food for people who live here year-round, not just vacation prices. I actually ended up spending more time at that beach than the famous ones because, well, you can actually find a spot to sit down.

The owners clearly know their stuff – they’re around but not hovering, and they have these great recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. Like, they pointed me toward this family-run pottery studio about five minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The whole property has maybe eight rooms, so it never feels crowded or impersonal. Breakfast is served in this lovely courtyard space where you can actually hear birds instead of traffic, and they source a lot of the ingredients locally. I mean, the honey alone was worth getting up for.

What strikes me most is how the place manages to feel both relaxing and like a genuine base for exploring. You’re not stuck in some resort bubble, but you’re also not roughing it in a budget place where the shower barely works. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing actual Greek island life while still having somewhere comfortable to retreat to. The 9.8 rating honestly doesn’t surprise me – this is the kind of place where small details add up to something really special, and you end up telling people about it months later.

  Let me start with the host. Isidoros is someone that any host should be. The communication throughout was exceptional.
  The property is wonderful and actually feels larger than what the pictures show. The cleanliness here was beyond expectation, as pointed out by my better half.
  If you want to stay in Rhodes, then choose the lovely village of Koskinou and stay in this gorgeous home, where the value for money was also exceptional.

  This place is amazing everything was perfect. The owner thought of literally everything. There were so many nice small touches in the house.

  Everything! Traditional village house with contemporary amenities. Very comfortable and well equipped for a big family like ours. A fantastic holiday home! The host Isidoros is friendly and welcoming. 100% recommended!

  Absolutely everything, apartment was beautiful, comfortable and had everything you needed. Arrived to a very generous welcome back. Our flight was delayed and we arrived well after midnight. The host Isidoros assured us this wouldn't be a problem and waited for our arrival. The communication from Isidoros was first class. Would love to stay here again one day.

  The Red Door is a very smart, spacious, secluded in a quite village 7 miles from Rhodes old town. The village has shops and tavernas. To get around the island you really need a hire car.
  
  What could be improved: It was quite difficult to find on the first occasion. Burt the host met us in the main village square to guide us to it.

  Everything was perfect. Exceptionally clean with all the facilities. Located in a beautiful, quiet area, with good local restaurants/tavernas. We had the best time here and we would love to come back. The host was amazing and the communication was great.

  The apartment is really beautiful! The old part of the village is also amazingly beautiful and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The owner was very friendly and helpful, the apartment was perfectly clean and well equipped, with everything you need also for cooking. The city of Rhodes is less than 15 minutes by car, also the Waterpark is very near.
  We can definitely recommend this place!

  Beautiful renovated house with a very well equipped kitchen.
  The outdoor shower was a unique experience for us.
  Quiet and effective ac in the heat of 40 C degrees.
