You know what struck me first about the Sunshine Rhodes? It’s actually right on Ioanni Rapti square in Ialyssos, which honestly sounds more impressive than it feels when you’re standing there. Don’t get me wrong – the location works, especially if you’re the type who likes having a proper town square to wander back to after beach days. The hotel itself has that solid, no-nonsense Greek island vibe that 4-star places do well here, though I’d say it earns its 7.2 rating pretty fairly. Not spectacular, but definitely reliable.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the area – like, when I asked about getting to Filerimos (the monastery up the hill), the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map. He told me exactly which bus to catch and mentioned that Tuesday afternoons are quieter if you want decent photos without tour groups crowding the ancient acropolis ruins. The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect. Clean, air-conditioned, with those typical hotel balconies that overlook either the square or the side streets. I mean, it’s not luxury, but everything works and the beds are actually comfortable – sometimes that’s all you need after a day exploring Rhodes’ medieval old town (about 20 minutes by bus, by the way).

The thing about Ialyssos is that it’s sort of caught between being a real Greek town and a tourist spot, and honestly, the Sunshine Rhodes reflects that perfectly. You’ve got local cafés where old Greek men play backgammon right across the square, but also enough English-speaking staff and familiar amenities that you won’t feel totally lost if you don’t speak Greek. The beach is a decent walk – maybe 10 minutes to the pebbly stretch where locals actually swim, not the organized beach bars that charge you €15 for a sunbed. Parking was surprisingly easy when I had a rental car, which… if you’ve driven around Greek islands, you know that’s not always a given. One thing though – the walls are a bit thin, so you’ll definitely hear your neighbors if they’re the type to slam doors or have loud phone conversations. But honestly, by August most people are tired enough from the heat and sightseeing that it quiets down pretty early anyway.

  Great location on the beach. Staff friendly.
  
  What could be improved: Room was dated but clean. Entrance door has glass panel next to it so morning sun shines in and lights up the whole room very early.

  Fantastic location and the facilities are great value for money…. There’s a good selection of food and the drink quality is better than that of competing European countries.
  
  Its good value for money. It’s not fine dining but for a cheap getaway or family break it’s a winner.
  
  You could literally throw a stone from the swimming pool into the see. AWESOME. weather was fantastic every day.
  
  What could be improved: My only criticism of the hotel is that they really need to manage sun beds. Its a busy hotel with lots of rooms but a limited number of sun beds. We arrived down at 8am for breakfast and there wasn’t one sun bed without a towel on it…. More annoying is that most of the morons didn’t arrive at the pool until after lunch. Its unrealistic to expect that humans will always be civil so the hotel need to do something on this front.

  It was a good hotel. Food was good but with little choice and variety, so if you are ok with si ply food you will be happy.

  This was a honeymoon. Good location. Basic all inclusive but you get what you pay for.
  
  What could be improved: Standing naked after having shower and another guest came into my room using a key given to him by reception!!! They denied they had given him the key. Incompetent! The manager sent a plastic plate of fruit , banana, apple and orange to the room as an apology! Imagine walking round the hotel and bumping into the guy every day around the hotel! Embarrassing!
