You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Sunnyside Villa – I mean, the name sounds pretty generic, right? But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on that winding road toward Koskinou village, maybe a 10-minute walk from the main strip but far enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos. The parking thing is actually legit (and free, which is rare around here), though you might have to do a bit of maneuvering if you’ve got a bigger rental car – these Greek side streets weren’t exactly built for SUVs.

The two-bedroom setup is perfect if you’re traveling with family or friends who actually want their own space. I mean, the bedrooms are generous, both with king beds that are surprisingly comfortable – none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you’re close enough to hear the waves if you open the balcony door, but the road noise dies down completely after about 10 PM. The kitchen’s well-stocked too, which matters because eating out every meal in Rhodes gets expensive fast. There’s this little bakery about five minutes down the hill where locals grab their morning bread – the owner’s wife makes these incredible cheese pies that’ll ruin your diet plans, but trust me on this one.

Here’s the thing about the beach proximity – it’s not like you step out your door onto sand, but the walk is actually pleasant through the old part of Koskinou. You’ll pass these traditional houses with their pebble courtyards (they call them “chochlakia” if you want to impress the locals), and honestly, that short stroll becomes part of the charm. The beach you end up at isn’t the most famous one on the island, but that’s exactly why it works. Less crowded, cleaner water, and the taverna right there serves probably the best grilled octopus I had during my entire stay in Greece. The villa itself has this lived-in feel that’s way better than those sterile hotel rooms – like someone’s Greek aunt decorated it with actual care instead of just ordering everything from a catalog. Air conditioning works perfectly, which you’ll definitely need in July and August, and the Wi-Fi is solid enough for video calls if you need to check in with work or family back home.
