You know what struck me first about Socrates Traditional House? It’s actually in Masari, which is this quiet little pocket near Haraki that most tourists completely miss – and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk down to Haraki Bay (maybe 10 minutes if you don’t mind the gentle slope), but you get this authentic village feel that’s pretty rare on Rhodes these days.

The house itself is one of those converted traditional buildings that – well, let’s just say they got it right. No fake rustic nonsense or overdone “authentic” touches that scream tourist trap. The stone walls actually keep things cool during those brutal July afternoons, and there’s this lovely terrace where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the locals go about their business. The owner clearly knows the area inside and out; they pointed me toward this tiny taverna up the hill that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being one of my best meals on the island. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re far enough from the main coastal road that you don’t get the late-night scooter parade that keeps you awake in places like Lindos.

The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which I suppose explains that perfect 10 rating. Parking is actually straightforward (huge relief if you’re renting a car), and the rooms have this lived-in comfort that makes you want to linger over breakfast instead of rushing off to tick boxes on your sightseeing list. Sure, it’s not going to have a massive pool or room service, but that’s sort of the point – you’re here for the real Rhodes experience. The location gives you easy access to both the medieval town of Rhodes (about 30 minutes by car) and some of the island’s best beaches, but honestly, I found myself just wandering around Masari and the surrounding hills more than I expected. There’s something about the pace of life here that just… works. If you’re looking for that Instagram-perfect infinity pool moment, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to understand what makes this part of Greece special – the way the light hits those whitewashed walls in the late afternoon, the sound of goat bells drifting down from the hills, the genuine warmth of people who aren’t seeing a hundred tourists every day – then Socrates Traditional House is exactly where you want to be.

  Το κατάλυμα ήταν πάρα πολύ καθαρό και πολύ ευρύχωρο. Παραδοσιακό με ωραία διακόσμηση. Παρείχε όλες τις ανέσεις όπως WiFi. Ο οικοδεσπότης ήταν πάρα πολύ φιλικός και εξυπηρετικός.
