Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Rizes Traditional House in Fanes – the GPS had me second-guessing myself on those winding mountain roads, but wow, am I glad I trusted it. This place sits in one of those perfect Naxian villages where you feel like you’ve stumbled onto a movie set, except it’s completely real and the locals are just going about their daily business around you.

The thing about Rizes is that it actually feels like staying in someone’s lovingly restored family home rather than a hotel – which, I mean, is probably exactly what it is. The stone walls have that authentic thickness that keeps everything cool even when it’s blazing outside, and you know what really got me? The way they’ve kept all the traditional architectural details intact while sneaking in modern comforts where you actually need them. The bathroom in my room had this gorgeous rainfall shower, but step outside and you’re looking at the same wooden shutters and hand-hewn beams that have been there for decades. There’s something about waking up to the sound of goat bells echoing off the hillsides – it’s ridiculously peaceful in a way that makes you forget you ever had cell service stress.

What really sets this place apart though is how the owners (who live right there, by the way) seem to know every hiking trail, every family-run taverna, and honestly every person in the surrounding villages. They’ll casually mention that Maria down the hill makes the best kopanisti cheese, or that if you head toward Koronos around sunset, there’s this one spot where the light hits the valley just right. The 9.8 rating makes total sense when you realize they’re not just running a hotel – they’re sharing their corner of Naxos with you. Parking is actually right there, which is huge when you’re navigating these mountain villages, and the stone terrace where they serve breakfast overlooks layers of rolling hills that change color throughout the day. I spent way too much time just sitting there with my coffee, watching the morning mist lift off the olive groves. Sure, you’re about twenty minutes from the main port town, but that’s exactly the point – you’re tucked away in the real Naxos, the one most tourists never see.

  Very clean, stylish, spacious and well equipped. Liked the outdoor restaurant very near the house and the beach at Fanes is one of the best nearby with sand and breaking waves.

  The house is perfect! But the location is far away from everything. If you have a car – so all is good! Also you have a nice restaurant and cafe next to a house.

  The house is exactly as it seems. We enjoyed our stay very much. It is just a bit away from the center but suitable for those who want to have a holiday in a local area away from the crowds. Additionally, by renting a car, you can tour the city on your way home and back.

  Sehr schöne renovierte Wohnung in einem ursprünglichen Dorf, was leider in Teilen sehr verfallen wirkt. Der Vermieter ist sehr zuvorkommend und nett.

  Sehr schöne Wohnung (zweistöckig) mit zwei Eingängen, da sie am Hang liegt.
  Die Treppe ist ziemlich steil und man sollte mit Vorsicht die Etagen wechseln.
  In beiden Schlafzimmern und im Wohnbereich befinden sich TV. Das WLAN funktioniert überall einwandfrei. Überall individuell steuerbare A/C.
  Die Einrichtung ist dezent aber stilvoll und heimelig. Vor dem oberen(Haupt-)Hauseingang befindet sich ein kleiner eingefriedeter Hof mit Freisitz, sehr schön.
  Die Wohnung ist nicht behindertengerecht und nur bedingt für Familien (Kids ab 6+ denke sollte klappen), man kann sie problemlos mit 4 Erwachsenen nutzen.
  Wir waren als Paar da, jeder hatte sein Schlafzimmer, perfekt.
  Der Vermieter ist großartig, fut erreichbar und er schickt Ausgeh- und Restauranttipps, da im Dorf -es ist ein Dorf(!)- die Möglichkeiten begrenzt sind.
  Apropos Dorf: spätestens am zweiten Tag//Abend kennen einen die Leute von Taverne/Souvenirladen/Tante-Emma-Laden etc da die Wohnung keine 100m von diesen entfernt liegt.
