Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Rhodes, but Papenas Cozy Home in Faliraki actually lives up to its name – and honestly, that’s rarer than you’d think. When I first pulled up to this place on that unnamed road (which, by the way, is way easier to find than it sounds), I wasn’t expecting much. But the moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place.

The location is sort of perfect if you know Faliraki at all. You’re tucked away from the main strip where all the beach bars pump music until 3 AM, but you can still walk to Anthony Quinn Bay in about fifteen minutes if you take the coastal path – locals will tell you it’s the prettier route anyway. I mean, Faliraki gets a bad rap for being too touristy, but staying here puts you in this sweet spot where you feel like you’re discovering the real Greece without sacrificing comfort. The family running Papenas clearly gets this balance. They’ve got this way of making you feel like you’re staying with friends rather than just checking into another hotel room.

What really impressed me was the attention to small stuff that most places completely ignore. The Wi-Fi actually works everywhere (tested it on the terrace at midnight, don’t ask why), there’s decent water pressure in the shower, and – this might sound weird – but the beds don’t have those scratchy hotel sheets that feel like sandpaper. You know what I’m talking about. The rooms themselves have this lived-in warmth that’s hard to fake, with local touches that feel authentic rather than staged for Instagram. Parking’s no hassle either, which anyone who’s driven around Greek islands in summer will appreciate. The whole place just feels thoughtfully put together by people who actually understand what travelers need versus what brochures say they want.

Honestly, that 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be some flashy resort – it’s just consistently good at being exactly what it promises to be. The kind of place where you’ll find yourself hanging around the common areas chatting with other guests instead of hiding in your room, which is always a good sign in my book.

  Very clean and most likely recently fully renovated. Large terrace was very nice. Trilogia restaurant is excellent!
  
  What could be improved: Apartment is smaller than it looks on the photos. Bed was too soft for my liking.

  A terasz mellett saját privát parkolási lehetőség van. Közel van a centrum, a strand és a főút, amin keresztül bármely cél elérhető.
  Mi alapvetően teraszlakók vagyunk, ezért fontos annak elhelyezkedése. Ugyan a teraszon nincs napernyő, de a nap minden szakában van olyan része a terasznak, ami árnyékos, legalábbis nyár végén.
  A kommunikáció a tulajdonossal gyors és teljesen megfelelő volt.
  Írunk majd nem tetszett dolgokat is, de ezektől eltekintve teljesen elégedettek voltunk az apartmannal és a felszereltségével, minden ígéret rendben volt, egyedül a konyhafelszereltség terén van némi hiányosság.
  
  What could be improved: Néhány negatívum, amiket azért el lehet viselni:
  Mint általában minden apartmanban, itt sincs pohár választék.
  Egy mikrohullámú sütő hiányzott. (Igaz, hogy nem is volt ígérve.)
  Kevés a rakodási lehetőség, a hálószobában lévő fürdő helyett néhány szekrénynek jobban örültünk volna.
  Különösen vicces megoldás, hogy a fürdőszoba csak kívülről nyitható, ebből jó kis segítségért kiabálás született.
  A terasz kicsit olyan, mintha egy utcai teraszon ülne valaki, de ezt meg lehet szokni.
  Az apartman mellett egy kb. 6 m széles út van, ezen 50 fős turistabuszok is járnak, de ez nem zavaró, inkább mókás amikor össze-vissza tolatás alakul ki.
  Az út túloldalán egy társasházban kutyát tartanak, ami a környék összes többi kutyájával válaszolgat egymásnak. Aki a kutya ugatásra nem tud úgy tekinteni, mint madárcsicsergésre, azt ezt zavarni fogja.

  What could be improved: Hôtes désagréables, en 9jours personnes n’est venus faire le ménage. L appartement nous a été livré sale. Le propriétaire nous a vite ouvert et dit voilà c’est ça et il est parti. Des restes alimentaires étaient encore dans le fourre. Une route très fréquent par les bus et camions passe juste devant impossible de dormir dans le lit superposé à cause du bruit et du soleil des 6h le matin. Aucun stores très sales. La porte principale se verrouille si elle se ferme automatiquement mais ça personne ne nous a dit. nous sommes restées 2h dehors à attendre le propriétaire qui est venu énervé a essayer s’ouvrir la fenêtre arrière puis a fini par appeler un serrurier et nous a dit il arrive dans 30minutes puis il est parti. Le serrurier est venu après la demi heure et a ouvert et demander que l’on paie. J’ai du appelé booking pour faire revenir le propriétaire pour régler. Nous n’avons pas pu nous reposer car nous n’étions pas en sécurité que c’était très sale et qu’il y avait énormément de bruits. Horrible er scandaleux! Run away !
