Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Rhodes Town, but this penthouse on Ionos Dragoumi actually surprised me – and honestly, that doesn’t happen often anymore. The street itself is one of those spots that locals know but tourists usually stumble onto by accident, which means you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds right outside your door. It’s maybe a seven-minute walk to the medieval Old Town (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but far enough away that you won’t hear the late-night revelry from the tourist bars.

The views are… well, they call it Panoramic View for a reason, but what really gets you is how the light changes throughout the day. Morning coffee on that terrace – you’re looking out over terracotta rooftops toward the harbor, and you can actually see the ferries coming and going. I mean, there’s something oddly soothing about watching the daily rhythm of the port from up there. The space itself feels properly lived-in rather than sterile hotel-room clean, if that makes sense. The kitchen’s actually functional (rare in vacation rentals), though I’ll be honest – with all the tavernas within walking distance, I mostly used it for morning Greek coffee and late-night wine. The AC works properly, which… trust me, in July that’s not always a given in older buildings.

What I didn’t expect was how quiet it gets at night. You’d think being in town you’d hear everything, but something about being up on the top floor insulates you from most of the street noise. Parking’s the usual Rhodes Town nightmare – narrow streets, limited spots – but there’s actually a small lot about two blocks away that most people don’t know about (ask the owner, they’ll point you in the right direction). The building itself has that slightly worn charm that Greek properties do so well – not pristine, but authentic in a way that feels comfortable rather than shabby. You know what really sold me though? The evening breeze up there is incredible. Around sunset, this cross-wind picks up from the sea, and suddenly you understand why people have been living on this island for thousands of years. It’s one of those small details that makes you want to extend your stay, which – full disclosure – I actually did.

  Came with our 18 yr old son for a short 5 day break. Our flight had been delayed and Panos the owner went above and beyond arranging for us to be picked up from the airport. The property was spotlessly clean and he been kind enough to provide some basics such as bread and milk and some things for breakfast. He had advised us in advance that the lift would not be working during our time there and more than made up for this after asking what we liked to drink, which was waiting chilled for our arrival.
  There were plenty of towels and linen which were all scrupulously clean. The location was perfect- within minutes of both the old medieval town and the beaches. Plenty of restaurants and bars within east distance. We couldn’t have picked a better place.
  He was always on hand to answer any questions and made sure in advance that we knew how to work everything in the apartment. Such as the electric awnings and lighting We were blown away as to his attentiveness and will definitely recommend to our friends and family.
  
  What could be improved: Without the lift the four flights could be quite challenging for anyone not physically fit. The location on the corner of a busy street in the day time may not be for everyone. But we can honestly say we were not disturbed at all by any noise at night.
