Honestly, the Olympic Palace Hotel caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how some five-star places feel stuffy and try-hard? This one actually gets it right. It sits right on Iraklidon Avenue in Ixia, which puts you maybe a ten-minute walk from Rhodes town but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds every morning. The whole Ixia stretch is pretty solid for hotels, but this one has that sweet spot location where you can walk to decent tavernas without feeling like you’re in the middle of a tourist trap.

The thing that struck me first was how the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing – check-in was smooth, they had real recommendations (not just the usual “visit the old town” spiel), and the front desk guy knew which beaches were worth the trip and which ones were just Instagram bait. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper five-star, but it’s the details that matter: the AC actually works well (crucial in Rhodes summers), the shower pressure is solid, and the beds are comfortable without being so soft you sink into oblivion. I stayed on the sea-side, and while you don’t get direct beach access, the view over the Aegean is pretty spectacular, especially at sunset. Fair warning though – if you’re a light sleeper, the street-facing rooms can get a bit noisy with the traffic on Iraklidon, but it’s not terrible.

What really sold me on this place was the pool area and how they handle the whole resort vibe without going overboard. The pool is large enough that you’re not bumping into other people, and they’ve got this covered area that’s perfect for those midday breaks when the sun gets intense. The food situation is actually decent too – their breakfast spread is solid (proper Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, and yes, they do a good traditional breakfast if you want it), and while the hotel restaurant isn’t going to change your life, it’s convenient and honestly better than half the tourist places in town. You’re also close enough to walk to some really good local spots – there’s this family-run place about five minutes away that does incredible moussaka, and the locals actually eat there, which tells you something.

The beach situation is interesting – Ixia beach is right there, and while it’s more pebbles than sand, the water is crystal clear and it’s way less crowded than the beaches closer to Rhodes town. You can rent chairs and umbrellas, or just bring a towel and find your own spot. The windsurfing here is supposed to be excellent if you’re into that sort of thing – the bay creates some consistent conditions that the water sports crowd raves about. For exploring, you’re perfectly positioned – easy bus connections to Rhodes town (though honestly, the walk along the coast is pleasant), and you can get to some of the island’s better beaches without too much hassle. It’s one of those places that gets the balance right between having everything you need and not feeling isolated from the real Greece.

  The room was very comfortable, the amenities were great and I particularly liked the adults – only restaurant for breakfast on the top floor with the excellent options.

  The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, clean, well maintained and with friendly and welcoming staff. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were excellent with an enormous variety of dishes; everything is marked with a detailed list of ingredients so anyone with a dietary restriction can easily choose what's good for them. We also enjoyed the on-site attractions (at additional but fair cost) such as the mini-golf course, the game room and the escape room.
  
  What could be improved: Since we are a family (couple + 3 kids) and we wanted the children to be in a separate room, we booked two rooms of the same type, and yet the rooms we received were very far apart despite our specific request for adjacent rooms – a request made several months in advance. Also, the hotel declined to supply us with more than one keycard for each room, which made things needlessly complicated and inconvenient for us in various cases. The pool hours are quite limited, it would be nice if it were open earlier in the morning and later in the evening. Finally, while breakfast included a wide variety of juices, coffee and water as part of the meal, dinner offered drinks as a mandatory, paid option only; we couldn't even get a drink of water without having to pay extra for it which came as an unpleasant surprise.

  Delicious food and plentiful. Brilliant rooftop bar. Crazy golf course is one of the best.

  What could be improved: Our sauna didn’t work during our stay. We had a sauna in our room but it was out of order both days and we lost electricity on the first day we were there

  Service and stuff are cool there.
  
  What could be improved: But the hotel is a bit too old and doesn't cost it's money. It should be cheaper because of it. During our staty we had experienced broken shower, then air conditioner leaked to the floor. As well we saw spots like 10-20 centimeters of black mold on the wallpapers near the air conditioner. But everything was fixed immediately. For it's current price we would expect it to be fixed in advance.
