You know what caught me off guard about Old Town Villa? I was expecting another cramped medieval building squeezed into Rhodes’ tourist maze, but this place actually breathes. Walking up Nikiou Street – which honestly isn’t the prettiest approach, kind of industrial looking – you’d never guess what’s waiting behind that unassuming entrance.

The moment you step inside though, it’s like someone hit the volume knob down on all the Old Town chaos. I mean, you’re still right in the thick of things (the Street of Knights is literally a three-minute walk), but the courtyard here has this almost monastery-quiet vibe. The owner, this chatty Greek guy who seems to know every delivery driver in Rhodes, told me the building used to house merchants back when the harbor was still the real deal for trade routes. You can sort of see it in the thick stone walls and these massive wooden doors that probably weigh more than my car.

What I really appreciated – and this might sound weird – was how they didn’t try to Disney-fy the medieval thing. The rooms feel authentically old without being museum-stuffy, if that makes sense. My bathroom had this tiny window that looked out onto a neighbor’s vine-covered balcony, and I’d hear this elderly Greek woman singing while she watered her plants every morning around eight. The air conditioning actually works (not always a given in these old stone buildings), and the WiFi reaches everywhere, even out in the courtyard where I ended up spending most evenings with a beer from the little market on Socratous Street.

Speaking of location – yeah, everyone says Old Town is convenient, but here’s what they don’t tell you: you’re close enough to stumble back from dinner on Aristotelous Square, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you won’t have cruise ship groups marching past your window at dawn. Parking is exactly as terrible as you’d expect anywhere in the Old Town, but there’s a decent public lot about a ten-minute walk away near the New Market. The staff will draw you a little map – honestly saved me probably an hour of driving in circles.

The 9.3 rating isn’t inflated tourist nonsense either. It’s those little things that add up: they keep the common areas spotless without being obsessive about it, the breakfast (when they’re doing it – seems to depend on season and occupancy) includes actual local honey and not just those sad little packets, and when the hot water went wonky in my room, someone was up there fixing it within twenty minutes. I’ve stayed in plenty of four-star places that couldn’t manage that level of responsiveness.

If you’re the type who needs a pool and room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-maintained ancestral home while being walking distance from some of the best medieval architecture in the Mediterranean – well, you could do a lot worse than Old Town Villa. Just book early if you’re coming in summer; word’s getting out about this place.

  Lovely house in an amazing location within the Medieval city walls, in a quiet area – nicely furnished and decorated with everything you need.
  The main bathroom is downstairs and has a great shower (the bathroom also houses the washing machine), and another toilet is located upstairs. Small functional kitchen leads out into a pretty and private courtyard which has shaded areas and seating.
  The owners are friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

  What could be improved: There was a beautiful orange tree behind the house that was cut down on the second day of our visit. I think the yard was not villa's property so it was not their decision.

  It is very very close to the town center, where you can find lots of restaurants and souvenirs shops. You can find everything what you need for your stay (pots, coffee machines, plates, cutlery, iron, etc). We received from the host fresh fruits, water, wine and sesame bread sticks. It was a lovely villa, clean and quiet.

  Maria & Giorgos are lovely people they kept in contact with us throughout our holiday checking if everything was ok and did we need anything.
  Great location 100 meters from the square very quiet location ideal for a family or couples, I have no problem recommending this villa it has everything you need.

  Facilities was good and well maintained. Airconditioning worked well. Central in Old Town, near to restaurants and shops and port. Host provided water in fridge. Host also accommodated out luggage after check out till we had to leave to the port. Washing machine worked well and we couls use the courtyard for drying our clothes

  Full of character. Away from the bustle but only a few minutes stroll to one of the main old town squares. Courtyard garden was an oasis.
