Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Nikos Ikies in Theologos – I mean, it’s tucked away from the main Rhodes action, about 20 minutes inland from the coast. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special. The moment you walk in, there’s this authentic Greek village vibe that the beachfront resorts just can’t replicate, and the family running the place actually remembers your name after day one.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep that local feel while still hitting all the comfort marks you want from a 4-star place. The rooms are clean and well-appointed – nothing fancy, but the air conditioning actually works (crucial in July heat), and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I stayed in one of the upper floor rooms and could see olive groves stretching toward the mountains, which beats staring at another hotel building any day. The breakfast spread is where they really shine though – proper Greek yogurt with local honey, fresh bread that’s still warm, and this amazing local cheese I couldn’t find anywhere else on the island. Plus, parking is right there and free, which anyone who’s driven around Rhodes Town will appreciate.

Here’s the thing about Theologos that most tourists miss – it’s where actual Rhodians go to escape the summer crowds. There’s a fantastic taverna called Platanos (ask Maria at reception, she’ll point you toward it) just a five-minute walk away where you’ll be the only non-Greek in the place, and the souvlaki is incredible. The village has this slower pace that grows on you, especially in the evenings when locals gather in the small square and kids play football in the streets. Sure, you’ll need a car to get to the beaches – Tsambika is about 15 minutes and worth every minute of the drive – but honestly, coming back to this quiet spot after a day of tourist madness felt like a genuine retreat. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be a flashy resort; it’s just doing the fundamentals really, really well in a place that still feels like the real Greece.

  Location, access to the beach, the adjacent restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner. Room was clean, tidy and it was cleaned each day.

  We had an absolutely wonderful time at this hotel. The location is perfect, just a few steps away from the beach, making it incredibly convenient for beach lovers like us. What really stood out was the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the owners, who clearly run both the accommodation and the restaurant with great love and attention to detail. We felt at home the entire time! Everything was spotlessly clean, and the style of the place added to the charm.

  Very nice family owned business and the food is 5 star and they serve it in a beautiful little garden.
  
  What could be improved: The beach is great to watch the Kite surfers and swimmable if you like waves. It isn't calm water, but the wind makes this part of the island much cooler in the summer. You can stay here for much less and rent a car to visit other areas of the island.

  Great food at hotel restaurant – Mariposa Close to small local markets, multiple restaurants and beach bars. Great for wind sports. Very close to airport ( but not loud)!! Very nice, warm and genuine owners/host.

  This has been the most exceptional place to stay and we cannot rate the service, food,staff, room or location highly enough. The ambience of the Mariposa restaurant is just divine and in the evenings especially the little garden is beautiful and there is a real eye for design and planting. Superb. Subtle lighting and music make for very special evenings. The food is first class with a real Greek heart whilst delivering the very best in flavour. The breakfast options are superb – everything is so fresh (you can see staff picking herbs and vegetables from their little garden) and there is care in the presentation of every single drink and dish. We loved the home cooking and the warm, family run nature of the hotel. Never have we felt more at home, more cared for, and had such exceptional food day after day.
  
  We had the deluxe double sea view room and again this was first class for comfort, design and a peaceful holiday. The bed, shower and balcony made for perfect rest.The little beach is close by, a 2 minute walk via a little path through the garden. There is a superb little Sunset beach bar serving excellent snack food,evening meals, coffees, cocktails, smoothies etc. The sea is lovely for a swim and it is lovely to sit and watch the kite surfers. The hotel includes free beach sunloungers for the day if you take the €15 breakfast option which is excellent value. You can even order drinks etc from the sunbeds if you wish. The smoothies are delicious. The beach is pebbles so bring your beach shoes and it is all fine to walk and swim. Even in August there was space and a relaxed atmosphere where some other beaches were very full!
  
  There is a supermarket across the road, little bars and restaurants but Mariposa is rated the best and one can see why. Excellent in every way. You can easily reach Rhodes or Lindos by car, or bus. We hired a car to see the Vallley of the Butterflies, Kalithea, Kamiros etc.
