Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Nikolas Old Town? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street called Eirinis – which means “peace” in Greek, and honestly, that’s exactly what you get here. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Rhodes’ medieval old town, but somehow this place feels like a secret that most tourists haven’t discovered yet.

The building itself has this beautiful stone facade that blends right into the ancient walls around it, and when you step inside – well, it’s like someone took a traditional Greek home and gave it just enough modern touches without ruining the magic. The lobby has these gorgeous arched ceilings and local artwork that actually means something, not just generic Mediterranean prints you see everywhere else. What I really appreciated was how the staff knew the neighborhood inside and out. The guy at reception told me about this tiny bakery three streets over where locals grab their morning koulouri, and he was absolutely right – I ended up going there every day.

The rooms are where this place really shines though. They’ve managed to keep all the character – exposed stone walls, traditional wooden shutters, these amazing high ceilings that keep everything cool even in July – while making sure everything actually works properly. You’ll sleep incredibly well here; the stone walls are thick enough that you won’t hear the occasional late-night revelers stumbling back from Sokratous Street. Speaking of location, you’re maybe a three-minute walk from the Palace of the Grand Master, but you’re on the opposite side of the main tourist drag, so you get all the convenience without the chaos. I could walk to that amazing little taverna on Pythagora Street (locals call it “the one with the cats”) in about five minutes, or head down to Mandraki Harbor in maybe ten.

Here’s something you won’t find in the official descriptions – the rooftop terrace. It’s not huge or fancy, but in the early evening when the light hits those medieval walls just right, and you can see glimpses of the sea between the buildings… honestly, it’s pretty magical. They serve coffee up there in the mornings too, which beats fighting for a table at the crowded cafes near the main square. The whole place just feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find. It’s clearly run by people who actually care about Rhodes and want you to experience it properly, not just check it off your Instagram list. If you’re looking for a pool or a gym or room service, this isn’t your spot – but if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in a medieval city rather than just visiting one, Nikolas Old Town gets it exactly right.

    Mikael is a perfect host!
The house was spotless and very spacious. Having both front and back terraces made our stay incredibly comfortable. Every detail was thoughtfully prepared, including complimentary treats and all the essentials. This was by far the most well-equipped home we’ve stayed in throughout our time in Greece. The location is amazing—right in the center, yet quiet enough to wake up to birdsong in the morning. There’s a small market and a boutique hotel with a café and restaurant just across the street, which was very convenient. Mikael’s hospitality and thoughtfulness truly stood out. After a previous guest had damaged the house, he repainted it before our arrival to ensure everything was perfect. He even came at midnight to bring us a spare key when we needed it. Without us even asking, he had a high chair ready for our baby.

A solid 10 out of 10! Our only regret was not being able to stay longer. Staying at Mikael’s home was an absolute privilege.

A lovely apartment in an excellent location. The apartment is comfortable, combines elements of old and new and has a very pleasant feeling. The kitchen is equipped so that you can prepare home-cooked meals or eat out at the many outdoor restaurants. Excellent communication with the owners. Do not hesitate! 5 stars!

  • Ragbet from Turkey – 11 September 2024 (10/10)

First of all, the location of the apartment was very nice, it was close to everywhere in the old town. The apartment was very clean and useful. Everything was thought out and more beautiful than the photos. The owner Mixalis was very helpful and considerate, he helped with everything. Highly recommended.

  • Louise from Australia – 6 August 2024 (9/10)

The property was well appointed, washing machine/dryer, coffee maker, jug kitchen with full sided fridge. Very generous bedrooms and bathroom, private courtyard and air con. Away from the hustle of the Main Street but only a 5 minute walk. Taverna and small shop right across the street.

  • Gokhan from Turkey – 28 July 2024 (10/10)

We spent wonderful holiday with my family in Rhodes. Nikolas Old town was the perfect place to stay. We all felt so comfortable. A lot of place, huge apartments , very modern but in Rhodes style stones decorations inside, that you feel the history vibes. Everything so cozy ,at home absolutely everything you need : kitchen with all stuff so you can cook at home. 2 wonderful rooms with big and comfortable beds ,big bath, big balcony(I liked to sit in the evening), there was another balcony going to garden to seat in backyard.

Location is perfect : 5-7 min to ferry by walk, so close( 5 min) to old town and all the but not in crowded street where the house is so silent. In front of apartments small market you can buy everything for breakfast and there is also nice restaurant.

My next time in Rhodes I already know my favourite place to stay is Nikolas Old town apartments.

Mixalis is wonderful and kind person and perfect host. He was so helpful and caring all the time.I felt like I already have relative in Rhodes.

  • Patricia from United Kingdom – 18 June 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was in a quiet locatio a few minutes walk from the centre of the old town. It was spotlessly clean and very spacious for two people. There was a small balcony and a terrace.” The owner was extremely helpful and kind. We highly recommend this apartment. However, as it was on the first floor up quite a steep flight of steps it might not be suitable for anyone with reduced mobility.

  • Thomas from United States – 16 April 2024 (10/10)
