Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Rhodes, and Monte Mare actually surprised me – in the best way possible. When you first pull up to this place on Ixia beach, it doesn’t scream “luxury resort” from the outside, but honestly? That’s part of what I loved about it. It sits right there on the stretch between Rhodes town and the airport, which sounds terrible on paper but actually works out perfectly. You’re close enough to everything without being stuck in the chaos of the old town crowds.

The thing about Ixia that most people don’t realize until they get there is that it’s got this perfect wind situation – the beach faces west, so you get these amazing sunsets, but there’s also enough breeze that it never feels stifling, even in July. Monte Mare sits right in the sweet spot where you can walk out and hit the beach in thirty seconds, but you’re also sheltered enough that you’re not getting sand blown into your room. The staff there – and I mean this genuinely – they remember your name after day two. Maria at the front desk knows everyone’s coffee order, which sounds cheesy but it’s actually pretty nice when you’re stumbling down for breakfast still half asleep.

What really got me was the attention to small stuff that bigger resorts completely mess up. The shower pressure is fantastic (you know how rare that is in Greece sometimes), the AC doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and they actually have enough pool chairs – I never had to do that ridiculous towel-at-6am thing. The pool area faces the sea, so you get this layered view situation going on that’s honestly gorgeous around 7pm when the light starts getting golden. Food-wise, breakfast is solid – proper Greek yogurt, local honey, fresh bread that’s actually fresh – but dinner, well, I’d skip it and walk five minutes to Taverna Kostas down the beach road. Trust me on this one, the grilled octopus there will ruin you for anywhere else.

The only real downside? You’ll hear planes occasionally since you’re sort of between the airport and town, but it’s not constant, and honestly after a day or two I barely noticed. Plus, being that close to the airport means you’re not dealing with some marathon taxi ride when you’re leaving. The whole Ixia strip is walkable – there’s a decent mini-market about three blocks down, and if you’re feeling ambitious, you can actually walk into Rhodes town along the coast road, though it’s probably a 45-minute trek. I did it once, mostly because I’m stubborn, but there’s also a bus that runs pretty regularly.

What really sealed it for me was sitting on their little terrace bar area around sunset with a Mythos beer, watching the windsurfers out on the water – Ixia’s actually a bit of a windsurfing spot, which gives the whole area this laid-back, sporty vibe that’s way more authentic than the tourist factory areas. That 9.8 rating isn’t just people being generous – this place genuinely gets the balance right between being comfortable and not trying too hard.

  We really loved our stay at Monte Mares Rhodes. Vasilis and his family welcomed us and even provided some food for our stay, which was very kind. The house is really well equipped with everything you could need for your stay, including a washing machine and lots of kitchen equipment and it is very clean. If you have a car at your disposal it is very easy to get to Rhodes city or around the island. The family will happily give you tips on where to go and Vasilis is always at your disposal for any questions. We really enjoyed staying at Monte Mares and will happily come back.

  the host is so friendly and enthusiastic. there is a supermarket near house，and we could make a cook easily. generally，this house is great. If you have international driver license and rent a car, it would be wonderful.

  Monte Mare Rhodes is a great vacation villa hotel. The interior decoration is simple yet fully functional, and filled with a lively atmosphere. The landlord Vasilis is very kind, and has prepared many daily necessities and drinks for us. There are also cute cat Meow and Anna's dog Hector in the yard, which are very friendly to people. We really enjoyed our stay here. If you can rent a car, this will be the perfect choice for your vacation accommodation.
  
  What could be improved: The hotel is located some distance away from the main road, so it's not very convenient to take public transportation if you don't have a car rental.
