Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Greek island hotels, but Mannashouse in Embonas actually surprised me – and honestly, that 9.2 rating isn’t just tourist fluff. You know what struck me first? The fact that you’re right in the heart of Rhodes’ wine country, not stuck on some crowded beach strip with every other hotel. Embonas sits up in the mountains (about 850 meters up, if you’re curious), and I mean, the drive there is half the experience – winding roads through pine forests with glimpses of the Aegean that’ll have you pulling over for photos every five minutes.

The hotel itself has this… I don’t know, authentic Greek feel without trying too hard? The owners clearly know their stuff – they’ll chat with you about the local wineries like they’re old friends, and honestly, they probably are. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing over-the-top fancy but everything works properly (thank god, because I’ve been burned by Greek plumbing before). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – none of that club music thumping until 3am that you get in Rhodes Town. Just crickets and maybe some distant conversation from the village square. The breakfast spread actually features local products too, not just generic hotel buffet stuff – proper Greek honey, cheese from somewhere nearby, that kind of thing.

Here’s the thing though – Embonas isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking to stumble from your hotel room straight onto a beach, this isn’t your spot. You’re about a 45-minute drive from the coast (longer if you get stuck behind one of those tour buses winding through the mountain roads). But if you want to experience a side of Rhodes that most tourists completely miss, where old guys still gather at the kafeneio in the evening and the local tavernas serve wine that was literally made down the road… well, that’s exactly what you’ll get. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned for day trips – the famous Butterfly Valley is maybe 20 minutes away, and you can hit different beaches each day without dealing with the crowds staying right on top of them. I’d definitely go back, especially during grape harvest season when the whole village comes alive.

  (the appartment was very large, well equipped, and is suiting for a family (we were a couple and it felt very spacious.
  a lovely grandma welcomed us, gave us a bowl of fresh peaces and grapes!
  the decoration is traditional and cozy, and the village itself is lovely and beautiful to wander around in.

  Lovely traditional house, fully equipped with everything you need. Lots of room inside and a nice sitting/eating are outside. The family are delightful.

  The house was charming. It was a unique experience to stay in a tradional Rhodian home. The owners filled the house with family heirlooms and quaint touches that helped balance out the lack of comfy furniture. Hosts left us wine and homemade cookies.

  Das Haus ist traditionell eingerichtet und verstreut einen authentischen Flair und hat sehr viel Charme. Es liegt am Rande in einem kleinen Dorf, in dem man das Leben der Einheimische kennenlernen darf und weit weg vom Massentourismus ist. Die Einrichtung war für unsere Ansprüche vollkommen ausreichend. Der Kontakt zu den Eigentümern war sehr einfach und unkompliziert. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und wurden regelmäßig nach unseren Ausflügen mit griechischen hausgemachten Spezialitäten von den Eigentümern überrascht und verwöhnt 😋 vielen Dank Anna und Kyriakos ☺️
  Zu der Zeit als wir da waren, hatten wir den gesamten super schönen Außenbereich für uns zur Verfügung und einen schattigen Traubencarport für unseren Mietwagen.
  Das Dorf selbst bietet sehr viele Möglichkeiten Essen zu gehen und ist günstig (wir haben lediglich zwei mal in 14 Tagen selbst gekocht). Auch die Einkäufe in den Supermärkten im Ort sind günstig und das Angebot vollkommen ausreichend.
  Wir sind von unseren Aufenthalt begeistert und können dieses Nest nur weiter empfehlen!!

  Der unserer Meinung nach schönste Gebäudekomplex in Emponas. Tolle Lage am Abhang des Attaviros Gebirges. Wunderschön traditionell eingerichtetes Haus. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und haben die Gespräche mit Oma genossen!

  Man kann sich rundum wohlfühlen. Es ist sehr authentisch, was nicht zuletzt auch an der enormen Gastfreundlichkeit liegt. Es ist super ruhig zum schlafen und die originell eingerichtete Wohnung lässt keine Wünsche offen. Dazu zählt eine voll ausgestattete Küche, Waschmaschine, etc. Alles ist fußläufig erreichbar (Bäcker, Supermarkt, Taverne). Mit am besten sind die herzigen Vermieter, wie man sie kaum sonst wo finden kann – nochmals herzlichen Dank an dieser Stelle.
