So I stumbled across this place in Kokkinagremos last summer – honestly, I wasn’t even sure how to pronounce the village name at first – and it turned out to be one of those happy accidents that make you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The Luxury Villa Hera sits on this quiet hillside about ten minutes from Afantou proper, and when I say quiet, I mean you’ll actually hear the cicadas in the evening instead of traffic noise. The owner, Maria, met us at the gate (there’s plenty of parking inside, which is a relief because finding spots in some Greek villages can be… well, let’s just say challenging) and gave us this warm welcome that immediately made the place feel less like a rental and more like staying with family.

The villa itself is exactly what you’d hope for – that clean, whitewashed Mediterranean look without being too precious about it. The private pool is genuinely private, tucked behind some olive trees with this view that stretches toward the Aegean. I spent most mornings there with coffee, watching the light change over the water, and honestly, it beats any hotel pool scene I’ve experienced. The interior feels lived-in but elegant – you know how some vacation rentals have that sterile, nobody-actually-lives-here vibe? This isn’t that. There are local ceramics on the shelves, comfortable furniture that doesn’t look like it came from a catalog, and a kitchen that’s actually equipped for cooking (I made some decent Greek salads with tomatoes from the village market). The bedrooms stay cool even during the afternoon heat, and the bathrooms have this lovely stone work that feels authentically Greek without being over-the-top touristy.

What really sold me on the place was its location – you’re close enough to Afantou beach to bike there in about fifteen minutes, but far enough up the hillside to avoid the crowds and beach bar noise. There’s this little taverna called Kostas about a five-minute walk down the hill where locals actually eat (always a good sign), and the village square has one of those old-fashioned kafenions where the older guys play backgammon in the shade. If you’re planning to explore Rhodes, you’re perfectly positioned – not stuck in touristy Lindos traffic, but close enough to everything that matters. The only minor thing I’d mention is that you’ll definitely want a car; it’s not a walk-to-everything kind of spot. But honestly, that’s part of what makes it special – you get that authentic Greek island experience without feeling like you’re performing vacation for other tourists.

  The villa was beautiful and very well equipped. The pool was amazing along with the views. The road is a little tricky but once you see the views it makes up for it. Villa Hera is perfectly located between Rhodes Town and Lindos with a wonderful beach only 10mins down the road.

  We really enjoyed staying at villa hara was much more them we expected, the facilities were clean and the pool was amazing, location was great a quiet calm place on top of the mountain, but still close to all the attractions, beaches and water sports was literally a 10 minute drive.

  This is truly a wonderful villa. Jenny was very kind and welcoming, and always available for questions. The house is exactly as it is in the pictures; beautiful and comfortable. The location is lovely and quiet with a marvellous view. Keep in mind that you do need a (rental) car. The kids didn't want to leave and now always want a private pool on holiday :-).

  We had a great week. The house was very clean and corresponds to the pictures. Tina, our contact person, was very helpful. When we arrived there were drinks and very tasty sandwiches and fruits. She gave us great recommendations. About supermarket, great beach bars, restaurants etc. She was also always available, when we had questions. We can warmly recommend the house.   האירוח היה פשוט מושלם! ג׳ני מנהלת הנכס הייתה זמינה ונחמדה ביותר למרות שלא היינו זקוקים לכלום.
  הוילה ברמה גבוה, מטבח מאובזר, מתקני חוץ מדהימים. תמורה מדהימה למחיר! אמליץ לכל האנשים מסביבי ואחזור שוב.
  
  What could be improved: אין, צריך לדעת שהעיר במרחק חצי שעה נסיעה אבל יש בסביבה הרבה מסעדות וסופר וכל מה שצריך.

  Mooie villa, een beetje afgelegen, heel rustig met geweldig zeeuitzicht (auto is een must). Super ontvangst! Bij onze late aankomst werd er in de ijskast eten voorzien voor het ontbijt voor de volgende dag en een lekkere fles wijn! Mooi zwembad, werd tegen betaling verwarmd maar was ons inziens te koud (schommelde tussel 21 en 25 graden).
  Heel tof dat een late check out mogelijk was, waarvoor dank🫠

  Unser Aufenthalt in der Villa Hera auf Rhodos war absolut traumhaft und unvergesslich. Wir, eine Gruppe von fünf Freunden, hatten das Vergnügen, diese wunderschöne Unterkunft für unseren Urlaub zu wählen, und es war die beste Entscheidung, die wir treffen konnten.
  
  **Gastfreundschaft:**
  Ein besonderes Lob gebührt Jenny, unserer wunderbaren Gastgeberin. Ihre Gastfreundschaft war herausragend und sie sorgte dafür, dass wir uns von Anfang an willkommen und wie zu Hause fühlten. Jenny war stets erreichbar, um uns mit wertvollen Tipps zu unterstützen und unsere Fragen zu beantworten. Ihr herzlicher Empfang und ihre fürsorgliche Art machten unseren Aufenthalt wirklich besonders.
  
  **Lage und Umgebung:**
  Die Villa liegt in einer idyllischen und ruhigen Umgebung, die gleichzeitig eine hervorragende Anbindung an die schönsten Strände und das pulsierende Stadtzentrum von Rhodos bietet. Die Nähe zu lokalen Sehenswürdigkeiten und ausgezeichneten Restaurants machte unsere Tage abwechslungsreich und spannend.
  
  **Ausstattung:**
  Die Villa Hera ist luxuriös und stilvoll eingerichtet, mit allem Komfort, den man sich wünschen kann. Die Räume sind großzügig geschnitten und geschmackvoll dekoriert. Jeder von uns hatte sein eigenes, komfortables Schlafzimmer mit einem privaten Badezimmer, was viel Privatsphäre und Bequemlichkeit bot. Der Poolbereich war ein Highlight, perfekt für entspannte Nachmittage und erfrischende Bäder.
  
  **Service:**
  Der Service war makellos. Die Villa war bei unserer Ankunft in einem tadellosen Zustand. Jenny und ihr Team sorgten dafür, dass wir uns um nichts kümmern mussten und voll und ganz entspannen konnten.
  
  **Besonderheiten:**
  Wir waren besonders beeindruckt von der großzügigen Terrasse, die sich perfekt für gemütliche Abende im Freien eignete. Die voll ausgestattete Küche ermöglichte es uns, gemeinsam zu kochen und schöne Abende zu verbringen.
