So I stumbled across Le Petit Refuge during one of those late-night booking sessions when you’re just scrolling through endless hotel photos, and honestly? The name had me curious – it translates to “The Little Refuge,” which felt pretty spot-on once I actually got there. This place sits right in Stegna, which is this wonderfully low-key stretch of coast that most tourists completely miss because they’re all cramming into Lindos or Rhodes Town. The maisonette itself is perched up enough to give you proper sea views – and I mean the kind where you can actually watch the fishing boats head out at dawn, not just a sliver of blue between buildings.

What struck me first was how the place manages to feel both polished and genuinely Greek at the same time. You know how some places try so hard to be “authentic” that they end up feeling like a theme park? This isn’t that. The two-floor setup means you’ve got space to actually spread out – upstairs for sleeping, downstairs for living – which is brilliant if you’re staying more than just a night or two. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, not just some sad mini-fridge situation, and there’s this little terrace where I spent way too many evenings with a bottle of local wine watching the light change over the water. The whole Archangelos area has this relaxed vibe that’s hard to find on Rhodes anymore – locals still outnumber tourists, especially if you’re there outside of peak summer madness.

Here’s what really sells it though: the hosts actually live nearby and know their stuff. They pointed me toward this tiny taverna about ten minutes walk away where the owner’s grandmother still makes the dolmades, and honestly, it was better than anything I had in the main tourist areas. The beach at Stegna is literally a five-minute stroll – it’s this long, sandy stretch that doesn’t get absolutely packed even in July, plus there are a couple of beach bars that don’t blast music until 2 AM if you’re worried about noise. Parking’s straightforward too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dragging luggage around in 35-degree heat. The 9.7 rating isn’t just people being generous – this place delivers on the details that actually matter when you’re trying to unwind somewhere beautiful without breaking the bank or dealing with resort crowds.

  The house is absolutely lovely and felt like a home and had everything you need, including dishwasher and washing machine.
  Beautiful decor, very clean, air con working well. Plenty of storage space, big shower.
  Very comfortable beds, 2 toilets in the property which was very helpful.
  Lovely balcony and garden with beautiful views.
  We loved the place!
  
  What could be improved: We had some issues with no wifi connection on some of the days we stayed there, and had to contact the property management company every time but was then usually solved quickly.
  The house is right next to an all inclusive resort, which means having live entertainment most nights which is quite loud, but it always finishes at 11pm.
  We didn't go to bed until after 11pm, so it wasn't really an issue for us. If someone wants absolute peace and quiet, it might not be for them.
  
  The property is up a steep hill, but we knew that, having been to Stegna before and it was our little workout after a meal and no problem for us. Someone with mobility issues may struggle.

  What could be improved: There was entertainment from the hotel but it stops by 11pm and isn't too noisy. The windows block out the noise but it would be noisy with them open
