You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of five-star places that felt cold and stuffy, but Kókkini Porta Rossa actually gets it right. The moment you walk through those doors on Archiepiskopou Efthimiou, you’re hit with this sense that someone really cared about every single detail here. The name literally means “red door” in Greek, and honestly, it’s one of those places where the name makes perfect sense once you see it – there’s this gorgeous crimson entrance that somehow manages to be both elegant and welcoming at the same time.

What really struck me is how they’ve managed to capture that old Rhodes Town magic without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the Palace of the Grand Master, but the hotel itself feels wonderfully intimate and personal. The staff – and I’m not just saying this because it sounds nice – they actually remember your name and seem to genuinely care about making your stay memorable. Check-in was smooth as silk, no hovering around the lobby for twenty minutes like at some places. The rooms have this perfect balance of traditional Greek character and modern comfort that so many hotels try for but rarely nail. You’ll find beautiful stonework and authentic touches, but also things that actually matter like proper air conditioning and a shower with decent water pressure.

Here’s something most people don’t realize about this part of Rhodes Town – it can get pretty lively, especially during summer evenings when everyone’s wandering the medieval streets. But somehow the hotel manages to give you that authentic old town experience while keeping things peaceful when you need to sleep. The soundproofing is actually impressive, which isn’t something you always get in these historic buildings. And parking – look, if you’re driving, you should know that the old town can be a bit of a maze, but the hotel staff will sort you out with directions and suggestions that actually work. They know their neighborhood inside and out, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate those narrow cobblestone streets. Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore everything on foot – the Archaeological Museum, the Street of the Knights, all those little tavernas tucked away in corners you’d never find on your own. But what I loved most is that after a long day of sightseeing, coming back to Kókkini Porta Rossa felt like returning to a genuine retreat rather than just another hotel room. That 9.9 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – it reflects the kind of experience that makes you start planning your next trip to Rhodes before you’ve even checked out.

  Such a beautiful place. Imagine waking every morning to your surroundings in a 14 century fortress brilliantly transformed into a very comfortable and exclusive hotel. The staff, the service and attentiveness of the owners make the stay special. The breakfast every morning was exceptional. My wife and I can’t imagine staying anywhere else on future trips to Rhodes. Certainly a benchmark experience.

  How can i describe it ? 😉
  It’s like visiting your cousins ( but veryyy cool and tastefull ones) , so you feeling like you belong .
  They are not only caring about how your time is in the hotel , but also about your time outside . It’s like you have a personal travel planner which is a great luxury if specially you are like us , who didn’t had time to check about Rhodos before the trip .
  Exceptional thoughtful details in every angle of the stay .
  Definitely recommending this experience .

  Hotel owners are very professional, sympathetic, great people. They have prepared a great software that includes topics such as the history of the vicinity of Rhodes, the places to visit, the restaurants, the beaches, the must-haves, and they give all the guests a tablet after downloading the daily programs specially prepared for them. This was a great experience that we had not experienced before. Their son Paris is a great musician. Every day, during 'Happy hour' showed the delicacy of accompanying us with his piano.
  Of course, it is very original, it is impossible not to mention the satisfying and delicious breakfasts with different foods every day.
