Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places around Rhodes, but Jojo’s Home in Mandriko Village is honestly something different entirely. It’s tucked away in this tiny village near Kamiros – and I mean tiny, like blink-and-you’ll-miss-it tiny – but that’s exactly what makes it so perfect. The moment you pull up (and yes, parking is easy, which is more than I can say for most places on the island), you realize you’ve found one of those rare spots that actually feels like a home rather than just another hotel room.

The thing about staying in Mandriko is that you’re right in the heart of what makes this part of Rhodes so special, but nobody really talks about it. You’re literally walking distance from the ancient Kamiros ruins – I mean, you can see them from some of the rooms – and honestly, going there at sunset when all the tour buses have left is just incredible. The whole area has this peaceful, almost forgotten quality that the busier parts of the island have completely lost. Jojo (who actually runs the place and isn’t just some name on a sign) knows everything about the local hiking trails and will point you toward these little beaches that don’t show up on any tourist maps. There’s this one spot about ten minutes down a dirt road where you’ll have the entire coastline to yourself.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep it feeling authentic while still being properly comfortable – and I’m someone who usually camps, so comfort isn’t my main thing. The rooms have this relaxed, lived-in feel with local textiles and furniture that actually belongs there, not some generic hotel stuff shipped in from who-knows-where. You can hear the cicadas at night and smell the wild herbs growing everywhere, but you’ve also got excellent Wi-Fi and a proper shower with good water pressure. The breakfast situation is particularly good – fresh bread from the village, local honey, tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, that sort of thing. They serve it on this terrace where you can watch the sun come up over the hills while planning your day.

I’ll be honest, it’s not for everyone. If you need to be within walking distance of bars and restaurants, this isn’t your spot – though the drive to Kamiros Skala for dinner takes maybe fifteen minutes and is absolutely worth it for the seafood. And if you’re the type who gets anxious without constant activity around you, the quiet here might feel too intense. But if you’re looking to actually experience this part of Greece rather than just pass through it, and you want to stay somewhere that feels like a discovery rather than a booking, Jojo’s Home is pretty much perfect. It’s the kind of place you end up recommending to people for years afterward, assuming you’re willing to share the secret.
