You know what caught me off guard about Johannes Boutique Apartments & Suites? It’s actually positioned perfectly on that stretch of Lindos-Rodos Avenue where you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the chaos that hits the main tourist strips. I mean, Afantou isn’t exactly where first-time visitors think to look, but honestly – that’s exactly why it works so well. The locals here still go about their normal routines, which gives you this authentic Greek island vibe without feeling like you’re staying in a theme park.

The suites themselves are what really sold me on the place. They’ve got this boutique feel that doesn’t try too hard, if that makes sense. The owner clearly put thought into the details – proper blackout curtains (trust me, you’ll appreciate this when the sun comes up at 5:30 AM in summer), decent water pressure in the showers, and kitchenettes that are actually functional, not just for show. I stayed in one of the larger suites and there was enough space to spread out without feeling like I was rattling around in an empty box. The balconies face different directions depending on which unit you get, but even the ones without sea views look out over olive groves and local neighborhoods, which I actually preferred to staring at another hotel wall.

What really makes this place work is the location on Lindos-Rodos Avenue – you’re maybe a ten-minute walk to Afantou Beach, which locals still use more than tourists (especially the northern end where the kitesurfers hang out). The strip of tavernas and cafes along the main road gives you options without overwhelming you, and there’s a decent supermarket about five minutes away if you want to stock up your kitchenette. Parking is straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Rhodes in July will tell you is not a given. The 9.3 rating doesn’t surprise me at all – it’s one of those places where small things are done right, from the check-in process to the way they handle maintenance requests. Sure, it’s not beachfront luxury, but it’s honest, well-run, and gives you a real base to explore from rather than just a place to crash between tourist activities.

  Exceptionally clean and tidy. Linen changed daily. Wonderful family and staff that own and run.
  
  What could be improved: No big things really. We were early season so they weren’t always serving full food choices but that was fine for us. A little walk to local village which is along a lit track. Not a negative but one to be aware of.
  Nearish main road but slept with door open so could hear a little traffic, I am a light sleeper.

  We arrived quite late (around 10pm) but were shown to our room by the lovely host, Johannes. The apartment had everything that we needed, it was super clean and the fridge was stocked with drinks and wine which was a lovely touch. We had a gorgeous view from the balcony. The bed was very large and comfy. The air con was great and the kitchen had everything we needed (the coffee machine was particularly appreciated!). The apartment was also cleaned daily, it was so nice to come back to a clean room every day.
  
  Johannes and the rest of his team were extremely friendly and accommodating. The pool and bar area was stunning and so relaxing! We had breakfast once, and it was a good spread of food. We also had the Friday night BBQ, which was delicious and such good value for money.
  
  The location was great, with a big supermarket just next door and some gorgeous beaches within a 15 min drive. I would definitely recommend hiring a car if you stay as it makes it much easier to get around and enjoy some day trips (we visited Rhodes old town, Lindos and took a trip to some mountain villages), particularly as there is a big car park on-site. We didn't spend the day on Afandou beach (as there was Tsambika Beach a short drive away, which was much nicer), but there is a great cocktail bar and a few nice restaurants along Afandou beachfront, which is a short walk from the apartment (around 20 mins).

  Simply amazing hospitality, Johannes and the team were super welcoming as though we were part of the family, we felt very well looked after. Lovely room with nice balcony, great shower, comfy bed, and it was cleaned every day. Really nice pool and gardens, always spotless. We enjoyed fresh breakfast each morning and the Friday BBQ. There's a supermarket next door, beach with clear sea in walking distance, close access to main road (though not noisy from apartment), easy walking into Afandou centre plus there are other restaurants in walking diatance. We didn't have any luck with the buses so recommend moped / car to travel round the island. Generally the people of Rhodes were very friendly. We can see why Johannes gets so many repeat customers!

  Firstly I am a person who is highly particular when it comes to cleaning standards and if the place I stay isn’t clean I can’t relax in a holiday. The room was squeaky clean and I could honestly relax. The hotel is 13 minutes walk to the sea and Afantou is not touristic at all which was what we were looking for. Johannes and his team is always there to support you with everything and are incredibly kind. I think it is great value and as two women we felt incredibly safe. Highly recommend.
