Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to In Camera Art Boutique Hotel on Sofokleous Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name made me think it might be one of those overly artsy places where style trumps comfort, but honestly? This place gets the balance just right. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Palace of the Grand Master, which means you can duck back to your room when the midday Rhodes heat gets brutal (and trust me, it does).
The building itself has this lovely old-world Rhodes Town vibe – you know, that honey-colored stone that practically glows at sunset – but inside, they’ve done something really smart with the art concept. Instead of cramming weird sculptures everywhere, they’ve created these intimate spaces where local photography and contemporary pieces actually make sense together. My room had this gorgeous black and white photo of Rhodes’ medieval walls that I kept staring at during my morning coffee. Speaking of which, the little Nespresso setup was actually decent quality, not the usual hotel room afterthought. The beds are properly comfortable too – I mean, after walking those cobblestones all day, you need something that doesn’t feel like a medieval torture device.
What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to actually know Rhodes, not just the tourist script. When I mentioned wanting to find good souvlaki away from the main tourist strip, the guy at the front desk drew me a little map to this family place about ten minutes inland – ended up being one of my best meals. The location on Sofokleous puts you right in the thick of the medieval town without being on one of those main drags where tour groups thunder past at 7 AM. You’ll hear some street noise during the day, but it’s more like the gentle hum of a living neighborhood rather than anything disruptive. Actually, I kind of liked falling asleep to the distant sound of people wandering the streets below.
The whole experience feels deliberately small-scale – there’s no massive lobby scene or pool area where you’re competing for space. Instead, you get this sense that you’re staying somewhere that the locals might actually respect rather than just tolerate. The shower pressure was excellent (crucial after those beach days), and they’d clearly thought about storage space, which is rarer than you’d think in boutique places. I will say the air conditioning worked well, though like most places in the old town, the stone walls mean rooms can feel a bit cool in the mornings even in summer.
Honestly, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re experiencing Rhodes rather than just visiting it, this place makes sense. The 9.4 rating isn’t inflated – it’s what happens when someone takes a beautiful old building in a perfect location and actually thinks through what travelers need rather than what looks good in photos. Just book early if you’re coming in peak season; places like this don’t stay secret for long.

Stylish, beautifully designed, very comfortable, great value for the money, thoughtful staff, quiet location close but separate from the hectic tourist strip.
What could be improved: Difficult to find but if I’d telephoned the staff would have picked me up in a golf buggy appropriate for the old town’s vehicle restrictions.Clair from United Kingdom – 6 June 2025 (9/10)
Fantastic location in the heart of the old town but in a quiet street.
Wonderful staff who made us feel very welcome.
What could be improved: We had a downstairs room opposite reception which could be noisy at busy times but we weren’t disturbed at night so not a major issue at all.Ahmet from Turkey – 3 June 2025 (10/10)

We recently returned to In Camera Art Boutique Hotel for another short stay with family—and once again, it was faultless. The same warmth, comfort, and thoughtful attention to detail we appreciated during our first visit were all still very much present. It’s rare to find a place that maintains such high standards with such genuine hospitality. A true hidden gem that continues to impress. Thank you again to the wonderful team—we look forward to our next visit.

Our hotel room had such a charming, quirky vibe—perfect for a family of four! Spread across three levels, there was lots of space for everyone to relax. The highlight was a gorgeous, oversized terrace offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Old Town and the sparkling sea. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile. Their restaurant recommendations were spot on.
