Honestly, when I first pulled up to Ilia’s place on Theotokos Street in Asgourou, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the address just says “0” which had me second-guessing my GPS. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t shout about themselves from the street. This little apartment gem sits perfectly positioned where you get that authentic Greek island feel without being stuck in the tourist chaos, and that view – well, let me just say Ilia wasn’t kidding about that part of the name.

The thing that really gets me about this place is how it strikes that perfect balance between being completely comfortable and still feeling like you’re somewhere special. I mean, you’ve got all the practical stuff sorted (the kitchen actually has everything you need, not just a hot plate and crossed fingers), but then you step out onto that balcony and suddenly you’re reminded why people fall in love with Greece in the first place. The morning light hits just right, and you can actually hear the island waking up – not traffic, not construction, just… life happening at a reasonable pace. Asgourou itself is one of those spots where locals still outnumber tourists, which means the little taverna down the way serves food for people who eat there regularly, not just Instagram posts. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven around Greek islands will tell you is basically winning the lottery.

What really sold me on recommending this place is how Ilia clearly gets what travelers actually want. The WiFi works (properly works, not just technically exists), the shower has decent pressure, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your bag instead of living out of a suitcase for a week. But it’s the thoughtful touches that make the difference – good coffee in the kitchen, extra towels without having to ask, and honestly, just the sense that someone cares about whether you have a good stay. The 4-star rating feels about right, maybe even modest, and that perfect 10 from other guests? After staying there myself, I get it. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but for what it is – a genuine, comfortable base for exploring this part of Greece – it absolutely nails it. You’ll spend your days out discovering the island anyway, but you’ll actually look forward to coming back here in the evenings.
