Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places along Rhodes’ southern coast, but Ilaira Sea View Bungalow honestly caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a place just feels right the moment you pull up? That’s exactly what happened here. It’s tucked away on that winding road between Pilona and Katavias (honestly, follow your GPS carefully because the signage out there can be spotty), but once you find it, you’ll understand why it’s earned that 9.7 rating.

The thing about this part of Rhodes is that it’s still relatively untouched – you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds from Rhodes Town or the package tour chaos of Faliraki. Gennadi feels like the Greece you imagined before you actually got to Greece, if that makes sense. The bungalow itself sits right where you can catch those morning sea views (actually spectacular at sunrise, though I’m not usually an early riser), and the whole setup feels deliberately low-key. The owners clearly get that people come here to decompress, not to be entertained every second. There’s proper parking – which sounds boring but trust me, after driving those narrow coastal roads, you’ll appreciate having a guaranteed spot that doesn’t involve three-point turns on a cliff edge.

What really sold me was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi works consistently (tested it during several work calls), the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and – this might sound weird – but the shower pressure is genuinely excellent. You know how hotel showers can be disappointing? Not here. The kitchen setup is practical too, which matters because while Gennadi has some solid tavernas, sometimes you just want to grab fresh stuff from the local market and eat on your own terrace. Speaking of which, the evening breeze that comes through is perfect – you get that salt air without feeling like you’re being sandblasted. I stayed during late September, which turned out to be ideal timing. Still warm enough for swimming, but the August crowds had cleared out and everything felt more relaxed. The beach access isn’t technically direct, but it’s maybe a five-minute walk down a path that’s easy enough to manage with beach gear. Honestly, the whole area has this end-of-the-world feel that’s either exactly what you’re looking for or completely wrong – there’s not much middle ground. But if you’re the type who finds peace in watching fishing boats come and go while you drink your morning coffee, then this place will probably become one of those spots you think about long after you’ve left.

  We had a great time in Ilaira Sea View bungalow. Everything is clean and well equipped with everything you need – tea, coffee, even dishwasher and washing machine powder. There were also some gifts – local products and fruit from our host. Communication with our host was also great. We travelled with small kids, they enjoyed beautiful garden with a swing. There is a man who takes care of the garden every day. A beach and the village is just a short walk. Thank you 🙂

  We enjoyed locality near the beach, absolute privacy and lots of pillows in the house….House was very clean and the equipment nice and new. We found all equipment we need, we were pleased by welcome gift from nice owners.

  This place is a paradise!We were warmely welcomed and always supported when needed. Receiving a beautiful gift and having everything you need in the house was something that we did not expect and we were so happy. We felt betrer than at home and everything was so easy:)George was a lovely person! The location is between the village and the sea,so everything is close,but very quiet and peaceful. It is about 3 mins to the beach and the beach is almost secluded:)Very relaxing place. 🌷

  The terrace is amazing, the garden aswell. The beautiful peaceful beach is few steps from the property. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your holiday. The owner is very kind and helpful. The house is well equipped with everything you need and more.

  nice vacation home tucked away from the noisy resorts further North. unobstructed view onto the Mediterranean, 5 minutes walk away from the beach.

  The location is perfect, 5 minutes to a nice beach and close to the town.
  The bungalow is nicely arranged, with a large terrasse and garden and is suitable for 4/5 adults. A bottle of wine was waiting for us and some snacks, which was a nice touch. Fully furnished and practical, easy to chek-in and check-out.
