Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Grande Albergo Delle Rose? The way it sits on Papanikolaou Street like it’s been holding court in Rhodes Town forever – which, honestly, it sort of has. I mean, this isn’t some flashy newcomer trying to prove itself; it’s one of those places that just knows what it’s doing. The building itself has this elegant Mediterranean grandeur that doesn’t scream for attention, but when you’re walking up from the harbor area (maybe a seven-minute stroll if you’re not dodging the tourist groups), you can’t help but notice how it anchors that whole stretch of the old town.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between proper luxury and actual livability. The rooms – and I’m talking about the ones facing the courtyard here, because honestly, those are the ones you want – have this incredible attention to detail that goes way beyond thread count and marble bathrooms. The air conditioning actually works (crucial in Rhodes, especially if you’re there in July or August), and the soundproofing is solid enough that you won’t hear every conversation from the medieval street below. The staff genuinely seems to know the island, too – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to find that tiny taverna near Mandraki Harbor that the locals actually go to, or which beaches are swimmable when the meltemi winds kick up.

I’ll be straight with you though – this level of quality comes with expectations. The service operates at that refined European pace where everything is done properly rather than quickly, which is either charming or mildly frustrating depending on your mindset. But here’s the thing: when you’re this close to the Palace of the Grand Master (literally a three-minute walk through those incredible cobblestone alleys), and you can slip back to your room during the brutal afternoon heat before heading out for evening drinks near the harbor, the whole rhythm starts to make sense. The location puts you right in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds at your doorstep every morning. Actually, one of my favorite moments was having coffee on their terrace at around 7 AM – before the tour groups descended – watching the old town wake up with just the sound of delivery trucks navigating those impossibly narrow streets. That’s when you realize you’re not just staying at a hotel; you’re living, temporarily, in one of the most remarkable medieval cities in Europe.

Reviews

The hotel breakfast was fantastic and catered for the needs of vegetarians and vegans as well as regular diets. There was ample, free parking on site (big bonus – it's a busy area) and the hotel is an easy walk to the Old Town. It's a classic, 1920'a hotel that has been very well maintained and most of the staff were super-friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: We had a very nice room with an ocean view, however it was quite noisy on a Saturday night due to the a nearby beach/nightclub. It was fine on other nights. Also, I had assumed the beach in front of the hotel was part of the faciliites that guests could use. It isn't, and we had to pay extra for beach chairs. There's a casino in the hotel.

  • John from Australia – 18 June 2025 (8/10)

    Location
    And grandiose

What could be improved: Prior to arriving there had been a leak from the aircondioner that had lealed on to rhe carpet leading to musky smell that had to be brought to the hotels attention a couple of times before it was rectified

  • Patrick from Ireland – 15 June 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location ,staff ,breakfast and facilities- made for a great holiday all round.

What could be improved: Gym facilities were very basic

  • Ashley from United Kingdom – 15 June 2025 (9/10)

Lovely style, very clean. Nice staff and great breakfast provided. Would recommend, ideal location by a well organised beach and right by Rhodes town and a short walk to the old town.

  • Aleksandra from Bulgaria – 13 June 2025 (9/10)

The staff are some of the friendliest people I have ever come across. My husband and I had a great time staying. The coffee at breakfast was so good, the treatment was perfect, and the facilities are very well maintained. Highly recommended!

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing. Perhaps a refresh of the interior of the rooms could be beneficial, but it’s all neat and clean!

  • Lisa from Australia – 4 June 2025 (9/10)

Good hotel offering many amenities, great beachfront location, beautiful breakfast and breakfast area, and good, friendly service. The rooms were great, large room and bathrooms, beds were comfortable.

  • Natalia from Austria – 3 June 2025 (9/10)

We are absolutely satisfied with the time spent at the hotel. Special thanks to the restaurant staff who started our day with excellent service at breakfast and to the restaurant's general manager who was very attentive and customer-oriented at dinner!

What could be improved: In our room, door stoppers were installed on the bathroom floor to prevent the door from hitting the wall. Unfortunately, we repeatedly injured our feet by accidentally tripping over this fix. I believe your architect will be able to find a safer solution for the door so that guests do not injure their feet in the bathroom. Thanks in advance

  • James from United States – 2 June 2025 (9/10)

The room 306 was gorgeous. High ceilings, beautiful trim. Just fabulous. The view from the 60 foot balcony was probably the most spectacular view from any hotel I have ever seen (and I’m old!). You can tell immediately that this was the grandfather property on this beach commanding the surrounding area.

What could be improved: For the money we should have received complimentary water each day.

  • Nicola from United Kingdom – 31 May 2025 (9/10)

The Grande Albergo Delle Rose is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Our junior suite was spacious, immaculately clean, and so comfortable—it felt like a lovely place to come back to at the end of the day.

Breakfast was a highlight each day, with a lovely cold buffet and tasty hot options to order. We also had a couple of meals at the beach restaurant and really enjoyed both. The whole stay was relaxing, and just what we needed. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it!

  • Eimear from Ireland – 20 May 2025 (9/10)

We had a lovely stay, a room with a fabulous view of the beach and ocean, and we enjoyed both the pool and the beach. The beach bar is very nice also. I highly recommend.
