Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of places in Rhodes Old Town, and the Grand Master Suite on Dimokritou Street honestly surprised me. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and immediately think “okay, this is actually nicer than the photos”? That’s what happened here.

The location is what really sold me – Dimokritou is this quiet cobblestone street that’s tucked away enough to avoid the tourist crowds stumbling back from Orfanidou Street at 2 AM, but you’re still a three-minute walk from the Palace of the Grand Master. I mean, you can literally see the medieval walls from some of the windows. The morning I was there, I could hear the church bells from Panagia tou Kastrou drifting over, which sounds cheesy but was actually pretty magical with my coffee. Speaking of coffee, there’s this little café – Koykos – right around the corner that locals frequent, and the owner will chat your ear off about the best beaches if you let him.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to blend the old stone architecture with modern comfort without making it feel like a theme park. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings (honestly, probably saved my sanity during that heat wave in July) and the AC actually works – which, trust me, isn’t always a given in these historic buildings. The bathrooms are properly renovated too, not just slapped together like some places I’ve been. There’s decent soundproofing, which matters because even on the quieter streets, you’ll get the occasional delivery truck rumbling over cobblestones at dawn.

The staff genuinely knows their stuff about the island. When I mentioned wanting to hit some beaches that weren’t completely overrun, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – the front desk guy actually drew me a little map showing how to get to this spot near Lindos where locals go. They also sorted out parking for me, which is honestly worth its weight in gold in Rhodes Town. You can’t just rock up and expect to find a spot near the old quarter, especially in summer.

I will say, if you’re expecting a big hotel experience with pools and restaurants and all that, this isn’t it. It’s more intimate – feels more like staying in a really well-appointed apartment that happens to have hotel service. The breakfast is simple but good, with local honey and proper Greek yogurt, not the watery stuff you sometimes get. They serve it in this little courtyard that catches the morning light perfectly.

The 9.5 rating makes sense once you’re there. It’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does – giving you a comfortable, authentic base in one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe – it does really well. Plus, you’re paying Rhodes prices, not Santorini prices, which your wallet will definitely appreciate.

  The Grand Master Suite was excellent. Perfectly placed near the main square in the old town, it was easy to visit the sights of Rhodes Town and restaurants, shops and museums. We were picked up from the airport by Giorgos and taken to the apartment. Giorgas carried our bags up the stairs to the apartment. The bed was comfortable and the facilities in the apartment were great. Giorgos visited each day to remove rubbish and change towels, etc. He was keen to ensure our stay was a good one.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing to dislike at all. Be aware that there are steps up into the apartment. That might affect some people. For us it was fine.

  It was a great location in the Old Town so you can walk to all the historical spots, restaurants and shops. You would not really need a car unless you want to explore other parts of the island. Daily cleaning service, coffee in room and refrigerator. You will be well taken care of at this Grand Master Suite. Nice bathroom.

  Felt like we were part of the medieval history – the apartment is beautifully furnished, spacious, has everything we needed and location is excellent – right in the heart of the Old town – just back from Hippocrates Square. Walking to all the historic sights, shopping, with great choice of restaurants surrounding us.
  Our host was so helpful, he picked us up from airport, gave us helpful tips on the city and getting around the island, and the fresh fruit and platter of pastries was a lovely surprise touch. (We visited during peak season, so the crowds of cruise ship visitors in the old town was at times overwhelming- but expected – and so we planned our movements around that.)
  We hired a rental car and found parking easily in the residential areas outside the walled city – just a short walk in.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing – we highly recommend it. We travelled across Greece to 4 other islands before Rhodes – this accomodation was delightful and suited us very well. And was exactly as shown in photos & description.
