Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Giannis House – I mean, the name’s pretty simple, right? But this little gem in the Agios Ioannis area really surprised me. It’s tucked away in Damatria, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to Rhodes Town that you can walk to the medieval city (maybe 15 minutes if you’re not dragging your feet), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds every morning.

The place has this authentic Greek family-run vibe that you just can’t fake. The owners – and I’m pretty sure it’s actually the Giannis family, though I never asked directly – they seem to know every guest by name within like two days. What really got me was how they’d remember little things, like how I liked my coffee or that I was always asking about the best swimming spots away from the tourist beaches. Speaking of which, they pointed me toward this incredible little cove about ten minutes away that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, but it’s the details that matter here – really good water pressure (trust me, this isn’t always guaranteed in Greece), air conditioning that actually works during those brutal August afternoons, and honestly some of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in. The balconies are decent sized too, and if you get one facing the right direction, you’ll catch glimpses of the sea between the other buildings.

You know what really sealed it for me though? The breakfast setup. It’s not some massive buffet situation – more like a proper Greek breakfast with local honey, fresh bread from somewhere nearby (I think there’s a bakery just down the street that supplies them), and these tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, you know? Plus, parking is surprisingly easy here, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate Rhodes Town with a rental car, you’ll appreciate. The area gets pretty quiet at night, so you’re not dealing with party noise, but there are enough tavernas within walking distance that you won’t starve if you don’t feel like venturing into the main town. I ended up at this place called Taverna Maria about three blocks away – locals packed in there every night, which is always a good sign. The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you stay here; it’s one of those places where everything just works the way it should, without any drama or hassles, and the family running it clearly cares about getting the details right.

  Recently refurbished, new furniture and appliances.
  
  What could be improved: The bathroom is newly refurbished and clean but not very well designed. It is all right for now but it will be difficult to maintain over time.

  Очень понравилось отношение хозяйки. Вызвать такси, приготовить греческое блюдо, рассказать куда ехать и тд. На кухне есть всё что нужно. Огромное спасибо.

  Υπέροχη τοποθεσία.
  Ήσυχα με όλες τις παροχές κοντά ( σούπερ μάρκετ, φαρμακείο, αεροδρόμιο και θάλασσα)
  Εξαιρετικό για τους λάτρεις πεζοπορίας και άλλων σπορ.
  Στο σπίτι επικρατεί το ξύλο και η πέτρα ως αυθεντική παραδοσιακή κατοικία με όλες τις σύγχρονες ανέσεις.
  Το συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα.

  Απίστευτο σπίτι πεντακάθαρο, ζεστό και ιδανικό για οικογένειες… Μοντέρνο και κλασικό με υπέροχες παραδοσιακές πινελιές, μαζί με άνετους χώρους και ησυχία που μας βοήθησαν να ξεφύγουμε από την βαβούρα της πόλης.. Σίγουρα θα το επισκεφτούμε ξανά, το συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα…!! Οι ιδιοκτήτες ήταν ιδιαίτερα φιλικοί και μας ενημέρωσαν για όλα όσα θα έπρεπε να επισκεφθούμε ώστε να γνωρίσουμε όσο περισσότερο γίνεται αυτό τον υπέροχο τόπο.. Σας ευχαριστούμε πολύ..
  
  What could be improved: Ότι πήγα για λίγες μέρες, έπρεπε να είναι περισσότερες… Αλλά θα το διορθώσω όταν ξανά πάω…😉
