Hotel Description

You know what’s funny about George & Alexandra’s Apartments? The name makes it sound like some family-run place with maybe questionable plumbing, but honestly, this spot punches way above its weight. I mean, we’re talking about a 4-star property with a 9.4 rating that actually deserves it – which, if you’ve done any travel booking lately, you know how rare that is.

The location on Ippodamou Street is pretty much perfect if you want to be in Rhodes Town without dealing with the absolute chaos of the main tourist drags. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the medieval Old Town (I timed it because I’m that person), but far enough away that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling back from the bars at 2 AM. The street itself is this quiet residential stretch where you’ll see actual locals heading to work in the morning – there’s something really nice about that authentic neighborhood feel. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak season, but there’s usually something within a block or two if you don’t mind walking.

What really got me about this place was the attention to detail that you don’t expect from apartment-style accommodations. The units are spacious – and I mean actually spacious, not “spacious for Europe” spacious – with kitchens that have everything you’d need if you want to hit the local market and cook with some of those incredible Greek ingredients. The bathrooms are modern (thank god), good water pressure, and they’ve clearly been renovated recently. Air conditioning works like a dream, which matters more than you think when you’re dealing with Rhodes in July. The WiFi is solid throughout, even on the balconies, which became my unofficial office space most mornings with coffee and that view toward the harbor.

There’s this wonderful family vibe to the whole operation – George and Alexandra clearly give a damn about their guests, and it shows in everything from the spotless common areas to how they handle the little things. When our flight got delayed and we arrived at nearly midnight, someone was actually there waiting for us with keys and a genuine smile. The check-in process took maybe five minutes, and they had this folder with handwritten recommendations for restaurants and beaches that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.

I’ll be honest, the building exterior isn’t going to win any architecture awards – it’s pretty standard Mediterranean apartment block style – but inside it’s been thoughtfully updated while keeping that Greek island charm. The beds are actually comfortable (again, rarer than it should be), and the kitchens have those little touches like quality olive oil and sea salt waiting for you. During the quieter morning hours, you can hear the church bells from the Old Town drifting over, which sounds cheesy but is actually pretty magical when you’re having your first coffee of the day.

If you’re the type who needs a pool and daily housekeeping and all that resort stuff, this isn’t your place. But if you want a clean, comfortable base in an excellent location with hosts who actually care about your experience – and you don’t mind doing your own dishes – honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find better value in Rhodes Town.

    Quiet and quirky

    What could be improved: Nothing

Charming and full of character. George and his son are excellent hosts, so helpful and friendly. There are 4 apartments in total, 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. We had the smaller apartment on the ground floor and we had plenty of space and everything we needed. The shared roof terrace up the windy staircase is really lovely and great for a little relaxation time!

It was charming. Felt authentic. Very well located. Hospitality was exceptional.

This is a beautiful apartment. With the communal rooftop terrace plus our private one it was a very relaxing place to stay. George was very communicative and helped us whenever we had questions and even helped us organise a taxi to the airport from the property in old town! It saved us dragging our luggage over the cobbles.

    What could be improved: Nothing!

George arranged for a taxi to pick us up and drop us off at the airport for a good price.
He was very welcoming and friendly when we arrived at the apartment. The charm of the room was exactly what I expected from the pictures. It was clean and there was a good amount of complimentary water provided. Just a short walk away was a cafe where we enjoyed breakfast, and it's close to many dinner options but certainly isn't in the louder, busier parts of the old town.

What could be improved: While the terrace is very beautiful in good weather, it rained for the first half of our stay, and the covering of this space allows for a lot of water to get through, so we were unable to use this outdoor space unfortunately. Also, the small foyer after you enter the front door and the staircase to get to the room are not covered at all, so the rain made that difficult.

I first found this place because I was looking for properties that offered a washing machine, as this was the middle of our entire trip. The machine is small like any European washer, and takes around 1.5-2 hours per load, which may or may not also be the standard. The part which should not be standard is the final spin cycle. Once it reaches this point, the machine begins to violently shake, and even begins jumping forward. In a matter of seconds, the washer had moved 2 feet forward and I thought it was going to unplug itself. We had to hold it in place to stop it from moving and to try and silence the extreme noise it was making. Eventually, we decided to press stop because this final cycle simply would not end. We needed to do two more loads during our stay, which meant we had to time things out so we were back at the apartment to hold the washer at the end of the cycle, which in the end was not all that inconvenient.

The clothes were fine, and it was very helpful that a drying rack was in the room as well. The most inconvenient part of this was that despite doing a cold load of laundry in the late evening, the shower was absolutely freezing that night and we could not use it.

This is a long complaint for me to still leave a 9 rating, I just want the owner and future guests to know the situation. If it can't be fixed, just do your laundry right before you leave for breakfast and come back when you're done eating. Looking back, my wife and I still have a good laugh about it and our stay was certainly not ruined by this.

We stayed in the studio apartment on the ground floor and were very happy with it. It was quite roomy, made bigger by having the shared courtyard at the door. It was well equipped for home cooking, had a nice shower and an incredibly comfortable bed. George and his family were wonderful hosts, flexible to meet our changed circumstances, attentive and proactive. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again.

Beautifully decorated apartment with a relaxing quiet balcony.

What could be improved: Steep stairs up to our room.

Fantastic apartment with tons of character that was also excellent value for money. The lovely terrace was perfect for enjoying breakfast in the morning and relaxing after a day of walking in the old town. The host was really kind and helped us with our luggage to and from the gate of the old town. The apartment was really tastefully decorated.

  • Lismountain from Spain – 11 April 2025 (10/10)

Right in the centre of old town but on a quiet sidestreet. Had everything you need if you wanted to be self catering! Very clean. Very quiet. Good quality sleep. Super friendly hosts there if you needed them but not intrusive.

What could be improved: The weather! 😄😄
