You know what struck me first about Gennadi Gardens? It’s tucked away in this sleepy village on Rhodes’ southern coast where most tourists never venture – and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. I mean, while everyone’s fighting for beach chairs in Faliraki, you’re here listening to nothing but cicadas and the occasional goat bell from the hills behind the village.

The apartments themselves are surprisingly elegant for what you’d expect in a place this laid-back. Each unit feels more like a friend’s well-appointed home than a typical Greek rental – there’s actual thought put into the layout, decent-sized balconies that catch the morning breeze, and kitchens you’d actually want to cook in (though honestly, Maria’s taverna down the road does these grilled octopus that’ll make you forget about cooking entirely). The gardens live up to their name too – whoever designed them actually knows plants, not just the usual resort palm-and-oleander combo. There are these fragrant jasmine corners where you’ll find yourself lingering with your morning coffee longer than planned.

What really sets this place apart is how it sits in Gennadi village itself. You’re a two-minute walk to a beach that stretches for miles – seriously, some mornings I’d walk south and barely see another soul until I reached the lighthouse area. The village has that authentic rhythm where the kafeneio fills up with locals around 11am, everything shuts down for a few hours when it gets blazing hot, then comes alive again as the sun starts to set. The owners clearly get this vibe – they’re not trying to create some artificial resort bubble, but rather letting you slip into the actual pace of Greek island life. Sure, you’ll need a car if you want to explore the rest of Rhodes (parking’s easy right in the village), but there’s something refreshing about a place where the biggest decision is whether to hit the beach before or after your afternoon nap. With a 9.8 rating, they’re obviously doing something right – and after staying here, I’d say it’s that rare combination of genuine comfort without losing the character that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special.

  The location was easy to find and very central to the town. The view was excellent, and the apartment was very spacious with a good kitchen
  
  What could be improved: The ceramic steps up to the apartment were dangerous when wet. The condensation from the A/C was running out onto the tiles, and the staff would wash the tiled balcony.

  Great location for Gennadi Village and just a few minutes walk to bars, restaurants, bakery and supermarket. Great views from balcony, with access to several pools. Host very helpful with any queries.

  What could be improved: Some better equipped kitchen would be appreciated. Bowls for breakfast, jug for water, more pots, wine glasses.
  But the whole kitchen was great, same as all the apartment as well anyway.
