You know what struck me first about Filoxenia Villas? The moment you turn off that main road between Gennadi and Lachania – honestly, it’s easy to miss the turn if you’re not paying attention – suddenly everything gets quiet. I mean, Rhodes can be pretty hectic in the summer, but this little pocket feels completely removed from all that tourist chaos. The name actually means “hospitality” in Greek, which sounds cheesy until you meet the family that runs it. They’re not hovering over you, but somehow they always seem to appear right when you need something (like when I couldn’t figure out the coffee machine at 7 AM).

The villas themselves are scattered across this hillside in a way that feels natural, not like someone just plunked down identical boxes. Each one’s got its own character – some face the sea, others look out over olive groves that stretch toward the mountains. The pools are what really got me though. Not massive resort-style things, but these intimate spaces where you can actually float around without bumping into strangers. Mine had this infinity edge thing going on, and honestly, watching the sunset from there with a glass of that local Athiri wine… well, it’s the kind of moment that makes you understand why people fall in love with Greek islands. The interiors are what I’d call “sophisticated rustic” – stone and wood everywhere, but with really good linens and these rainfall showers that actually have proper water pressure. Small thing, but you know how disappointing hotel showers can be.

What I didn’t expect was how well-positioned this place is for exploring the southern part of Rhodes. Everyone talks about Lindos (which is beautiful but absolutely mobbed), but from here you can hit these incredible beaches like Plimiri and Kiotari without fighting crowds. The drive to Monolithos castle takes maybe twenty minutes through some of the prettiest countryside on the island. And Gennadi village itself – it’s still got that authentic Greek thing going on. There’s this taverna called Mavrikos where the fish is so fresh it’s basically still swimming, and the owner will argue with you about politics while pouring you shots of tsipouro. The staff at Filoxenia seems to know everyone in the area, so they’re constantly giving you these insider tips about which beach will be empty at what time, or when the local festivals are happening. Parking’s never an issue here, which is more of a relief than you might think if you’ve ever tried to navigate some of these Greek coastal towns in August. The only minor thing – and this is really reaching for criticism – is that you’ll definitely want a car. It’s not walking distance to much of anything, but that’s also exactly why it feels so peaceful. That 9.9 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there.

  We rented both Filoxenia Villas for a big family holiday for 3 generations including young children. We had high hopes before we arrived – and they were far exceeded! They are 2 beautiful, wonderfully practical and perfectly equipped properties with lovely pools. And Olga and Andreas were perfect hosts – approachable, flexible and generous with helpful information. And the pastries they brought were lovely!

  A villa that is an example of a holiday home, amazingly designed, clean and spacious and the hosts above all. We stayed for 10 days and it was perfect.
  A secluded and perfect beach within walking distance, a large and luxurious pool.

  Everything was amazing. Olga and Andreas are the nicest hosts I have met in my travels. The villa has all the utilities you need (you don't miss anything).   Everything was fantastic and the villa is MARVELLOUS and AMAZING. Olga & Andreas are the best hosts I have never found in my travels. Precise, polite, warm, prompt to solve any issue, welcoming: they are very good persons and their villa has been a beautiful surprise for the relax, the swimming pool, the sunset and dawn at the rooftop… I will certainly come back!
  
  What could be improved: Nothing can be changed, it is everything perfect, starting from the welcome from Andreas at the beginning of our holiday!

  The villa is great, well equipped and very comfortable. Andrea, the owner of the house, is very helpful, he had provided us with a rich set of food and drinks, showed us everything, advised us the best restaurants and beaches. I recommend choose this villa to everyone.

  The Villa is magnificent, a lot of outdoor spaces and the pool is huge. Everything is new and in great condition.
  Besides the great amenities Andreas' hospitality was awesome. Not only was the fridge full on arrival he also came by with local treats during our stay and had great tips for us what to visit, where to go out for dinner etc.

  Everything about the villa was amazing, including the owners! We were met at the villa by Andreas who had refreshing drinks ready, along with fresh figs from his garden. There was some food to get us started and tide us over til we went to the supermarket. Andreas spent some time telling us about the best beaches and restaurants etc. Two morning we woke to them having left us yummy fresh baked treats on the outdoor table!
  The villa itself has everything we needed. The pool was perfect and we spent a lot of time in there. I can’t recommend the villa or Andreas and Olga enough- thank you for an amazing vacation!
