I mean, the name sort of gives it away (Ferienhaus literally means vacation house in German), but honestly, I wasn’t expecting to feel this… settled the moment I walked through the front door.

The private garden is where this place really shines, and I’m not just talking about having somewhere to sit with your morning coffee – though that’s pretty great too. It’s this surprisingly lush little oasis where you can actually hear the cicadas doing their thing instead of traffic noise, which is saying something since you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The whole setup feels like you’re staying at a friend’s place rather than checking into accommodation, if that makes sense. There’s proper kitchen space (not just a kitchenette), which saved me a fortune since eating out every meal in Rhodes can get pricey fast. The furnishing is comfortable without trying too hard – think solid wooden furniture and local textiles rather than flashy resort décor.

What I really appreciated was how the owners clearly get what travelers actually need. The Wi-Fi works everywhere, even in the garden, there’s plenty of hot water (trust me, this matters more than you think after a day exploring), and they’ve got this relaxed approach to check-in that doesn’t make you feel like you’re disrupting their day. Kolymbia itself is one of those spots that’s sort of perfectly positioned – you’re about twenty minutes from Lindos when you want to do the whole ancient acropolis thing, but you’re not dealing with the crowds that pile into the main tourist areas. The beach here is actually swimmable year-round, and there’s this little cluster of tavernas within walking distance where the locals eat, which is always a good sign. I’d definitely come back, especially if I was planning to stay more than just a couple nights – having that garden space and the kitchen setup makes it feel less like a hotel stay and more like temporarily living somewhere beautiful.
