Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Escape Rooms” as a hotel name, I was expecting some gimmicky place with puzzle themes everywhere. But this spot on Ethnarhou Makariou in Afantou? It’s actually become one of my go-to recommendations, and that 9.8 rating isn’t just inflated reviews from friends and family.

The thing about Afantou is that it’s got this perfect sweet spot vibe – you’re still close enough to Rhodes town (maybe 20 minutes by car) but far enough out that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The hotel sits on this quiet stretch where you can actually hear yourself think, which honestly was exactly what I needed after bouncing around the busier parts of the island. What really surprised me was how the staff seemed to know the area inside and out – not just the obvious tourist spots, but like, which tavernas the locals actually eat at and when the best time to hit Afantou Beach is (early morning, by the way, before the sun gets brutal).

The rooms themselves have this clean, modern feel without being sterile, you know? I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything works properly – and after staying at places where the shower barely trickles or the AC sounds like a dying helicopter, that matters more than fancy marble countertops. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living in a closet. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – the walls must be decent because I never heard my neighbors, even during what seemed like a busy week in July. The WiFi was solid throughout the building too, which saved me from having to hunt down internet cafes when I needed to sort some work stuff.

Here’s what really sets this place apart though – it’s the kind of hotel where you can tell the owners actually care about the details. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprise fees, and when I mentioned I was interested in some of the lesser-known historical sites around Rhodes, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure. They actually mapped out a route that avoided the tour bus traffic and included this amazing little church I never would have found otherwise. The breakfast was simple but fresh – proper Greek yogurt, local honey, decent coffee – nothing fancy but done right. And the location gives you easy access to explore the rest of the island without feeling like you have to battle traffic every time you want to go somewhere. Honestly, for a 4-star place with ratings like this, I was expecting to pay a lot more than what they’re charging. If you’re looking for a solid base to explore Rhodes without the tourist circus atmosphere, this is worth checking out.

  Room was very clean, spacious and fully equipped. Bathroom was excellent, fully renovated and clean. Owner was very kind. Location is good only if you have a vehicle. It is strategically situated at the centre of the island (between Rhodes town and Lindos) and there is no major sightseeing point or beach or any other place of interest within walking distance. Parking was really easy. Overall, it was an excellent and value for money option to explore the island of Rhodes.
  
  What could be improved: Bed could be better, as it seems that it is the only thing that has not been renovated. However, it was not an issue for us.

  I truly recommend staying at Escape Rooms. Stamatis is really hospitable and helpful host. Place is new, very clean and perfectly equipped. Location is good, quite close to local taverns and shops but not too close (it was very quiet at night).

  We really loved the clean, modern bathroom. The apartment was spacious, well equipped (a big fridge, 2 very effective air conditioners with quiet mode, a sandwich maker and all the pots and pans you could wish for). There is a shaded parking space right next to the building. We also heartily recommend our hosts who were very helpful and welcoming. There are plenty of great restaurants and a supermarket nearby. We are sincerely surprised our stay cost as little as it did but as it turns our there are no catches to the price whatsoever.
