Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Elia Old Mansion? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet provincial road in Malona Village where you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – but once you’re there, it feels like you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special. The building itself has this weathered stone character that screams authentic Greek countryside, not the whitewashed tourist trap stuff you see everywhere else. I mean, you can tell it’s been around for ages, and they’ve done a really thoughtful job restoring it without making it feel like a museum.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience real Greek village life. Malona isn’t one of those places crawling with tour buses – it’s where locals actually live and work, and the mansion sits right in the heart of it all. You’ll hear church bells in the morning (which is actually pretty charming once you get used to it), and there’s this little taverna maybe a five-minute walk down the road where the owner’s grandmother still makes the best spanakopita I’ve had outside of Athens. The rooms are spacious in that old-world way – high ceilings, thick walls that keep things cool even in summer heat, and these gorgeous wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re staying somewhere with history. What really impressed me was the attention to detail; they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with period charm without it feeling forced or cheesy.

Here’s the thing though – if you’re expecting resort-style amenities or want to be walking distance from beaches, this isn’t your spot. But if you’re looking for a base to explore the inland villages, or you just want to slow down and experience Greece at a different pace, it’s absolutely perfect. The staff actually knows the area (shocking, I know) and can point you toward hiking trails and local spots that aren’t in any guidebook. Parking is easy – there’s space right at the property, which anyone who’s driven in Greece will appreciate. The only minor thing is that the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing depending on what kind of trip you’re after. With a 9.4 rating, it’s clear other people are having the same experience I did – sometimes you find these hidden gems that just get everything right.

Elia old Mansion is in a small village. It is a quiet place and close to best beaches with a car.We were welcomed and had a warm introduction by the owners mom. The house was very clean and we also liked the welcoming gifts left in the house. We had our breakfasts at home everyday. There is small supermarket where you can find everything in the village. The house is also close to best beaches south of island. Closest one is 10 min by car. Agathi, Tsambaki and Anthony Quinn beaches were the best. The owner had asked us whether we were fine and needed help during our visit. He gave good tips about beaches to visit and tavernas to eat.

  • Julie from United Kingdom – 19 September 2024 (8/10)

The property was clean, spacious and very well equipped. The main bedroom had a lot of light that flooded in and two doors to balconies which allowed breeze to flow through. Giannis the owner kept in touch regularly and was very helpful.

What could be improved: The main bedroom had a hanging rail for clothing but a larger storage space there would have been good. Their was a very large wardrobe in the second bedroom which we used as a dressing room as an alternative

  • Martin from Czech Republic – 31 July 2024 (10/10)

Accomodation in small quiet village. Nice and helpful host Seva and Giannis. Very clean house where you can find everything you need for your holiday. Good place for making trips around the island. I can only recommend stay in Elia Old Mansion.

  • Inna from United Kingdom – 10 September 2023 (10/10)

Great house in traditional Greek village Malona. There are spacious kitchen, 2 bedrooms with air conditioning and one bathroom and 2 living rooms. It was perfectly clean when we arrived. Every bedroom has separate Wi-Fi routers, which makes very easy to work at laptop. What is more, outside is nice area where you can enjoy beautiful evening in the shade with glass of wine. The landlady Sava and her son were lovely people who were absolutely helpful and let us to check in the night time. They left us some food and bottle of wine and an arrival gift. Also in the village you can find good taverna with cheap prices for Greek food. Nearest beaches 10 minutes to drive called Agati and Charaki. Thank you so much, we highly recommend this place to stay in this house in the future.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect

  • Neda from United Kingdom – 26 June 2023 (10/10)

Wow, wow, wow. Amazing home, amazing location and amazing owners. Seva and Yannis were so welcoming and made us feel so comfortable.  La maison du petit village is beautiful, so clean and welcoming and so many lovely touches, all designed to make our holiday enjoyable. The welcome goodies were a real treat!

Location wise, the property is situated in an excellent spot on Rhodes Island. Its proximity to Tsambika and Agathi Beach allowed for easy access to crystal clear waters and the most stunning sunsets.

The picturesque town of Lindos is a twenty-minute drive from Malonas. The tiny beach of Agios Pavlos, located in the same harbour, has been named one of Europe's top ten beaches and is worth a visit.

The Tragakis family were the perfect hosts and I would highly recommend La maison du petit village for anyone looking for an authentic holiday experience and an escape from the large hotel chains on the Island.

Malonas is truly a charming neighbourhood with exceptionally friendly locals, which is all part of the experience. In the evenings we enjoyed sitting out on the terrace with a cold drink and eating delicious BBQ food. Probably one of the best holiday homes I’ve stayed at!

  • Amir from Portugal – 11 August 2024 (8/10)

The welcome was pleasant, we received a lot of fruit and a wine, the villa is spacious and it allows us a fun stay. The house is wonderful for nostalgia lovers. Very nice relative to the attractive cost.

What could be improved: The beds were not comfortable enough for us. The air conditioners are excellent in the rooms, but not cool enough certain spaces in the house. Getting to the location requires a car and with it the access is a bit challenging on the first day..

  • Anonymous from Germany – 22 August 2023 (10/10)

The house has anything you could ever need, the kitchen is fully equipped and the family renting it out is very kind and considerate, they are great hosts! Everything was clean and the house looks beautiful in general. We would love to visit again!

  • Y from Germany – 12 June 2025 (10/10)

  • Cynthia8d from Italy – 8 August 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Tutto bene
