Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Diasoulas house? It’s this unassuming entrance on Sofokleous street that you could easily walk past – I actually did walk past it twice before spotting the small sign. But honestly, that’s part of its charm. Once you climb up to the first floor (that’s what the “1ος οροφος” means if your Greek is rusty like mine was), you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special in the heart of Rhodes Old Town.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drags. Sofokleous runs parallel to some of the busier streets, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the medieval sights and those Instagram-worthy spots everyone talks about, but you can actually get some sleep at night. I mean, you’ll still hear some street noise – it’s Rhodes Town after all – but nothing like what you’d get if you stayed right on Ippoton or near the main square. The narrow cobblestone streets around here are where locals actually live and work, so you’ll see old Greek men playing backgammon at tiny cafes and smell fresh bread from bakeries that have been around forever.
What really impressed me was how the place manages to feel both authentic and comfortable – and trust me, that’s harder to pull off than it sounds in these old buildings. The restoration work is clearly done by someone who actually cares about the character of the place rather than just slapping modern fixtures everywhere. You can tell they’ve put thought into keeping the traditional elements while making sure everything actually works (the WiFi was solid, the air conditioning didn’t sound like a jet engine, that sort of thing). The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s those little details that add up, like having genuinely helpful local recommendations from the hosts rather than just a generic tourist map.
Parking is… well, it’s what you’d expect in the Old Town, which is to say complicated. But there’s a public lot about a five-minute walk away, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. Everything worth seeing is walkable, and the restaurants and bars that locals actually frequent are all within stumbling distance. I spent most evenings just wandering the maze of streets around Sofokleous, discovering tiny tavernas tucked into corners that you’d never find unless you were staying right in the neighborhood.
The whole area comes alive differently depending on the time of day – mornings are quiet and perfect for coffee at one of the small places nearby, afternoons get bustling with a mix of tourists and locals, and evenings have this magical quality when the stone walls glow golden and you can hear music drifting from various directions. If you’re coming during peak season, you’ll appreciate having a genuine home base away from the cruise ship crowds, but close enough that you can dive into the action whenever you want.

This is probably one of the best, if not the best, accommodation I've ever stayed in. The apartment was wonderful and had everything we needed for our stay. There were only two of us and so we had a bedroom each, which were huge, spacious and very comfortable. They were furnished beautifully, as was the rest of the apartment.
The kitchen had everything we needed for self-catering, and more. A lot of thought had clearly gone into what to provide and there was a coffee machine, juicer, toastie/ panini maker and so much more. Even ice cube trays in the freezer. When we arrived, we were gifted a huge bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine, water and some crackers and rusks and so we didn't have to struggle for food and drink as we arrived in the evening.
The roof terrace was beautiful, with views of the castle and the old town and chairs, loungers, shade and sunshine. It was so lovely to sit up there in the day time and in the evening and such a wonderful addition to the apartment.
The area was perfect for us, right in the heart of the old town, with fantastic restaurants and bars nearby (would recommend Hamam Cafe round the corner) and not too far to walk to the beach and the bus station. Small supermarket just around the corner.
What could be improved: We had some trouble finding the accommodation as our airport taxi dropped us off outside the old town walls and we had to follow Google Maps directions in the dark, which took us to the square nearby, but we couldn't find the house. We asked nearby restaurant staff for help and eventually phoned the owner via a restaurant owner and we were directed to the right house and someone was there to meet us and show us around the apartment. The accommodation is basically round the back of the Romios Restaurant with the front door on Egeos Street, not Sofokleous.
We also had a problem in one of the bedrooms, the one nearest the bathroom, as the door to the room is attached to the wardrobe via a hook and chain (to keep the door open). When I went to bed, I closed the door, not realising it was attached to the wardrobe and it accidentally pulled the wardrobe down! Luckily I managed to catch it before it fell to the floor, but just be aware of this before anyone else makes the same mistake 🙂Mcharr from Canada – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

Lovely terrace. Great restaurants nearby. Very helpful owner.
What could be improved: Too many steps.Ray from Australia – 16 September 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful house in Old Rhodes Town. The terrace was an added bonus. We enjoyed having nibbles up there each evening. The location was brilliant and our host gave us treats to make our stay even better. Large bedrooms with plenty of room in all areas. Lots of restaurants nearby to eat out.
What could be improved: Because there is no car traffic allowed we needed to wheel our luggage to the accommodation. Not really a minus though. We coped.Brena from United Kingdom – 7 September 2024 (10/10)
Everything , it was fantastic . The owner met us and took us to the apartment . The fridge was stocked up with fresh fruit, water, a bottle of wine , a selection of biscuits, and coffee .
Comfortable beds. There are lots of plug sockets in every room , even supplied beach towels . Air conditioning in every room . Much needed it was so hot .
The apartment is lovely everything you need and more. Private roof terrace, equipped with sun beds, sofas , chairs , lots of plants , and the view is amazing . It is close to everything, shops, restaurants, bars , and all the amazing historical sites, 15 min walk to the new town . 5 min walk to the harbour , not far from bus station , so much to see , we couldn't do it all in a week . We are going back next October. Such a very special place , and this apartment , more like a house, is just the icing on the cake

Had a wonderful stay at the Diasoulas house in Rhodes Old Town. The house was in a quiet location close to restaurants and a supermarket. It was clean and spacious with satellite TV a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely private terrace. There were two spacious bedrooms with 3 double beds and a private bathroom and a shower. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the gentleman owner met us at the Main Gate on arrival to help with our luggage and escort us to the house. He also did the same when we left helping and escorting us to the Main Gate. I would definitely stay there again next time im in Rhodes and would highly recommend it to my family and friends.
Ralitza from Belgium – 7 July 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is spacious. We were three people, but it can easily fit 4 plus children. There are two balconies. Bathroom and toilet are together. The location is very good, just few minutes from the central square. Elli beach is about 20 minutes walk. There is a supermarket 2 minutes distance. Bus station is 15 minutes away. Hosts are very kind, they have provided some water, fruits, snacks, coffee for a good start of the vacation. Everything is spotless clean. The restaurant below is very good!
What could be improved: Fresh air in the bedrooms comes only from the living room and kitchen.Johannes from Australia – 25 June 2024 (9/10)
.location was great in the old town. Only a short walk to the main centre but far enough to be quiet. Plenty of restaurants in the immediate area.
Could not fault this place and would highly recommend it.
What could be improved: Toaster didn't,t work properlyJames from United Kingdom – 7 May 2024 (10/10)
Met and shown around the house by a lovely Gentleman. Fridge had water, wine, OJ, fruit and there were some other snacks. Very quiet, traditional accommodation but literally a very short stroll from one of the main squares. Very well equipped kitchen and bathroom had complimentary toiletries also towels provided for the beach. Topped off (!!!) by the fantastic roof terrace, more than enough furniture, including 2 sun loungers with the choice of sun or shade throughout the day.
What could be improved: No complaints at allRachel from United Kingdom – 29 October 2023 (10/10)
The apartment was spotlessly clean,; it was better-equipped than anywhere I've stayed in Greece before; the roof terrace was amazing, and the location was perfect!
What could be improved: Nothing
