You know, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Rhodes, but Colori Di Maria really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Rodou Lindou street in Afantou, which honestly isn’t where most tourists end up, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The whole area has this authentic Greek vibe that you just don’t get in Rhodes Town or Lindos where everyone’s fighting for the same Instagram shot. When I first pulled up, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name (which, by the way, translates to “Colors of Maria” – there’s actually a sweet story behind it that the owner will tell you if you ask). The building itself has this warm, almost residential feel that makes you forget you’re staying at a hotel.

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between local character and actual comfort. The rooms have these little touches that feel deliberate but not overdone – I mean, you can tell someone actually thought about what travelers need rather than just checking boxes. The beds are properly comfortable (not those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you counting ceiling tiles at 3am), and honestly, the whole place just feels… right. The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, which sounds like marketing speak but becomes obvious after about five minutes of talking to them. They’ll point you toward the good tavernas that locals actually eat at, not just the tourist traps with the English menus.

Here’s the thing about Afantou that most people don’t realize – you’re actually in a perfect position to explore the real Rhodes without dealing with cruise ship crowds every day. The beach is massive and rarely packed, even in July, and there’s this little bakery about a ten-minute walk away that does these incredible cheese pies that’ll ruin you for airport food forever. If you’re planning to rent a car (which I’d recommend), parking here is actually straightforward, unlike trying to navigate the medieval streets of the old town with a rental Fiat. The whole area gets this lovely quiet in the evenings when the day-trippers head back to their resorts, and you can actually hear the cicadas over the traffic. Look, I’m not saying it’s perfect – the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty if you’re trying to upload vacation photos, and if you’re the type who needs to be in walking distance of nightclubs, this probably isn’t your scene. But if you want to experience Greece without feeling like you’re staying in a theme park version of it, Colori Di Maria gets it right in ways that surprised me.

  Complesso recentemente ristrutturato, pulito e funzionale. Ci è piaciuto il balcone ampio e abitabile, la privacy e la gentilezza dei proprietari, soprattutto il sorriso della signora Maria sempre pronta a farci sentire come a casa.
  A pochi minuti d'auto dalla splendida spiaggia di Afandou e a mezz'ora da Rodi.

  Аккуратный, чистый, совсем новый номер с балконом. Очень тихо, хотя и рядом дорога. Сад😍
  Удобная большая кровать, наличие отдельных полотенец для пляжа. Местоположение: в 300 м большой супермаркет и пекарня. Галечный пляж Афанду в 15-ти минутах ходьбы. Рядом автобусная остановка. Ресторан рядом с отелем Old House Taverna, с очень вкусной едой и приятными ценами😍

  Das Haus hat 4 Appartements, die im ersten Stock liegen und die nach den kombinierten Farben der italienischen und griechischen Flaggen auf italienisch benannt sind: rot, weiß, blau grün. Wir waren zu zweit im Apartment "rosso". Die Ausstattung des Zimmers war ganz neu und alles picobello sauber. Die Vermieter waren sehr zuvorkommend, freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Betten waren sehr bequem mit ausreichend harten Matrazen. TV ist vorhanden, haben wir aber nicht genutzt. Klimaanlage funktionierte hervorragend und leise. Schön eingerichtete, schattige Sitzgelegenheiten hinter dem Haus in einem tollen Garten (ein kleines Paradies), in dem die Besitzer alles mögliche angebaut haben: Wein, Papaya, Limonen, Oliven, Zucchinisträucher, Bergamotte … Dort befindet sich auch der Parkplatz, der für kleine Mietwagen gut ausreicht.
  Rhodos Stadt war in 30 mins schnell zu erreichen. Noch ein Hinweis zur Anfahrt: von der Hauptstrasse aus Richtung Flughafen / Rhodos kommend muß man am Restaurant "The Old House", das diekt an der Strasse liegt, an dessen rechter Seite durch eine schmale Zufahrt fahren, um zum eigentlichen Appartmenthaus zu gelangen. Das Haus liegt in der 2. Reihe sehr ruhig.
  
  What could be improved: Die Küchenzeile hat keine Ausstattung, um eigene Speisen zu kochen. Die Kleiderschränke sind offene Konstruktionen mit Stangen und Regalbrettern und waren vom Platz leider etwas eingeschränkt und daher unpraktisch selbst für 2 Personen. WLAN und Netz manchmal etwas instabil; ist aber auch provider-abhängig.
