Hotel Description

You know what surprised me most about the Cactus Hotel? It’s tucked away on this little side street – 14 Ko – that most tourists just walk right past, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works. I mean, you’re still in the heart of Rhodes Town, literally a three-minute walk from the main tourist drag, but when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of… I don’t know, calm? Like you’ve found something the cruise ship crowds haven’t discovered yet.

The whole place has this relaxed Greek island vibe without trying too hard – you’ll notice it right when you walk into the lobby. There’s actual character here, not that sterile hotel chain feeling. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with ferry schedules and trying to figure out which beaches are worth the trek. I stayed here during shoulder season in May, and while the pool area got busy around lunch (mostly families), mornings were perfectly quiet – great for actually enjoying your coffee instead of fighting for a chair. The rooms are solid four-star standard, nothing fancy but everything works, and here’s the thing about Rhodes Town hotels – you’re going to hear some street noise. That’s just reality when you’re staying somewhere walkable. But the Cactus sits just far enough off the main pedestrian streets that it’s not constant motorbikes and late-night bar crowds.

What I really appreciated was how the location actually makes sense once you spend a day or two exploring. You can walk to the medieval Old Town in about eight minutes – I timed it because I’m neurotic like that – and hit the New Market for groceries or that little bakery everyone raves about (it’s called Mama’s, ask the front desk). The beach situation is honestly better than staying right on the water because you’ve got options. Elli Beach is the closest if you want convenience and don’t mind crowds, but the hotel staff will point you toward the bus stop for Lindos or some of the quieter spots along the east coast. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which… well, if you’ve ever tried to drive in Greek island towns, you know that’s actually a big deal. The whole experience just felt practical in a way that expensive resort hotels often aren’t – like someone designed it for people who actually travel rather than people who just want Instagram photos. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting genuine value without cutting corners on the stuff that matters. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to explore more of the island instead of just lounging by a pool all week.

  • Badner from Israel – 30 April 2025 (9/10)

Great location, have plenty of parking nearby, beach 50m, view to the sea, breakfest is really good and offers variety, all and all the price was very good (march season)
    Staff is nice a helpful

What could be improved: bath tab sink was broken, so was able to take showers only

  • Josie from United Kingdom – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

Great hotel located along the seafront. A nice walk along the front into the old town and plenty of e-scooters and e-bikes if your legs need a rest! Highly recommend booking a room with a sea view and balcony as the view is absolutely beautiful at all times of the day.

What could be improved: Decor in bedrooms is slightly dated but we knew what we were expecting so was not an issue.

  • Hfb from Spain – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Location and breakfast variety. Amazing view from the room, and very good customer service in reception. Martha and Alex were very nice and welcoming, and helped us in everything we needed. I would definitely come back. Also the young blonde lady in the bar was very nice, I didn't catch her name.

What could be improved: Breakfast opening times changed without notice. We felt rushed to leave before finishing. At 10am sharp the staff started removing all the plates. I asked if I could take my coffee up to my room and drink it there, and I've been told to go to the bar and buy one…
The shower was small and the curtains too short, so all the water flooded the bathroom floor. We were given extra bath mats upon request.

  • Alex from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (8/10)

Breakfast good but small dining area and limited choice of food.
The views from our panoramic room were amazing

What could be improved: The restaurant manager was very abrupt and a little rude
    All other staff were great

  • Janet from Australia – 13 November 2024 (9/10)

Friendly, happy and helpful staff – from reception – breakfast – bar and cleaners – a positive experience
Location ideal for access to the beach

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Jon from United Kingdom – 5 November 2024 (8/10)

Excellent location, very clean and well appointed room. Close access to the beach and the town.

What could be improved: Staff were not up to the expected quality and standards of the hotel. Reception staff were either unable to answer questions. One member of staff clearly hadn’t been given the tour as he didn’t know if the outdoor pool showers were inside or outside… I just had to go and find out. No big deal, but why didn’t he know?
Another person at reception sent us to the wrong bus stop. Even when I checked multiple times (because the bus didn’t appear) she confirmed the same stop. I then asked a local who redirected us.
Breakfast staff were quite unfriendly and quickly pointed out we were late for breakfast because we arrived 10 mins before the end of service even though we were sitting outside where everyone sat long after breakfast had closed.
The mini market staff were significantly more knowledgeable and helpful. The cleaning staff were also excellent.

  • Alicia from United Kingdom – 25 October 2024 (9/10)

Location important for me. Clean comfortable and lots of breakfast choices

  • Ci̇han from Turkey – 2 October 2024 (8/10)

    Location is super

What could be improved: They don’t have king size bed at the room and bathroom was small

  • Anita from Hungary – 8 September 2024 (9/10)

    Nice breakfast, excellent location

What could be improved: Last day we didi not get towels and the luggage room was full with luggages, we hardly could take out our own suitcase. Durind the night there was a constant noise, even when we turned-off the, we get used to it, bit it was not nice
