You know what caught me off guard about Bouganville? I’d driven past Stegna Beach probably a dozen times on my way to other parts of Rhodes, but I never really stopped to explore until I stayed here. Honestly, it’s one of those places that makes you wonder why everyone flocks to the busier beaches when this gem is sitting right here in Archangelos. The B&B sits just back from the beach – and I mean just back, like you can literally hear the waves from your room but you’re not getting sand blown into your coffee at breakfast.

Maria and Kostas (the owners) have this way of making you feel like you’re staying at your Greek aunt’s house, if your aunt happened to have impeccable taste in linens and knew exactly how to make a proper Greek coffee. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully simple – nothing fancy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works and feels right. Mine had this little balcony that looked out over their garden, which is honestly where the name comes from because the bougainvillea is absolutely everywhere in the best possible way. The Wi-Fi actually works well (I know, I know, but it matters when you’re trying to upload photos), and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train, which puts it ahead of half the places I’ve stayed on the islands.

What really sold me on this place though – beyond the fact that Stegna Beach is this perfect mix of locals and travelers without being overrun – is how Maria casually mentioned the best time to hit the beach (early morning or after 5 PM when the light gets golden), and then just happened to have fresh towels ready when I came back from swimming. It’s those little things, you know? The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but it’s all local stuff and changes based on what’s good that day. I had some of the best honey I’ve ever tasted there, and when I asked about it, turns out it comes from hives just up in the hills behind Archangelos. The kind of detail you only get when people actually care about what they’re serving you. And here’s something practical – parking is easy, which if you’ve ever tried to find a spot in Lindos during summer, you’ll appreciate. The whole area stays pretty quiet even in peak season, though I’d probably avoid July if you’re not great with heat. September was perfect, honestly – warm enough for swimming but with that nice evening breeze that makes you want to sit on the terrace with a glass of whatever local wine they’re pouring.

  I recommend this place to everyone. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was delicious. Beautiful view from the pool and balcony. The staff was very pleasant. I will definitely visit this place again.

  Beautiful pool and breakfast area, our host recommended a lovely traditional Greek restaurant and even dropped us at the next town for us to catch a bus to our next destination.

  A superb location with incredible views; I would highly recommend this property as a relaxing getaway from the main tourist locations around the island. Antonio and Nadia were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. The room was cleaned everyday and we were provided with poolside towels for lounging on the beds. The location is away from the bustle of Stegna but close enough to get to via vespa or car. We hired a car as we wanted to explore more of the Island. However, Stegna itself has enough bars and tavernas should you want something more authentic and local and want to veer away from an itinerary fuelled holiday. The beaches aren't overcrowded and if you want something a little more alternative, then Grande Blue isn't far. The breakfast was delicious and there was a lot of choice each morning and the village of Archangelos is about a five minute drive, where there is a supermarket, pharmacy and bars and restaurants. Food and drink is reasonably priced. I honesty couldn't recommend it enough.
