Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of beachfront places in Rhodes, and Blue Sea Holiday Village actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. The thing about Afandou Beach – and honestly, most tourists skip right past it heading to Lindos – is that you get this perfect middle ground between the crazy busy resort strips and those tiny villages where there’s literally nothing to do after 6 PM.

The hotel itself sits right on the beach, but here’s what I really appreciated: they didn’t try to cram every square meter with pools and bars like some of these places do. You’ve got space to breathe, you know? The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – nothing fancy, but the AC works properly (crucial in July, trust me), and most have these little balconies where you can actually hear the waves at night. I mean, the decor isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything’s clean and functional. What more do you need when you’re spending most of your time outside anyway?

The beach situation is honestly the best part – Afandou has this long stretch of pebbles and sand that never gets completely packed, even during peak season. The water’s that perfect Aegean blue-green, and since it faces east, you get amazing sunrises if you’re an early riser. The hotel provides loungers, but here’s a local tip: walk about ten minutes south along the beach and you’ll find spots that are practically empty, plus there’s this little taverna called Kostas (the old guy with the mustache) that does the best grilled octopus on the island. Don’t even bother with the hotel restaurant for dinner – it’s fine, but why eat hotel food when you’re in Greece?

Getting around is easier than you’d think. There’s a bus that runs to Rhodes Town pretty regularly, though honestly, renting a scooter or small car makes way more sense if you want to explore. The hotel has parking that’s actually free – which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places charge for it. Plus you’re only about 20 minutes from Lindos if you want to do the whole Acropolis thing, and the drive through those little mountain villages is half the fun.

Staff-wise, they’re genuinely helpful without being overly chatty. The front desk guys speak decent English and actually know the area – they pointed me toward this amazing little monastery up in the hills that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprises or hidden fees, and they were cool about storing my bags when I had a late flight.

Here’s the honest truth: if you’re looking for some massive resort complex with three pools and nightly entertainment, this isn’t your place. But if you want a comfortable base for exploring Rhodes that doesn’t feel like every other cookie-cutter beach hotel, Blue Sea Holiday Village delivers. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, but it does what it promises well, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a proper vacation.

We had a wonderful honeymoon at the Blue Sea holiday village. The whole resort is very well maintained with 4 fun pools, one of them entirely focused on small children. The resort took great care of all of our needs and made the vacation unforgettable. We loved the room and the balcony.

We ate so well thanks to the all inclusive buffet. The mealtimes are great, there is so much variety, buffet restaurant with about 10 different main courses, each time different, an abundance of fresh salad, local cheese, pickled vegetables, and so much cake! Every day is a different thematic day, like Mexican cuisine, Asian cuisine and of course Greek cuisine. Also the poolside food court serves gyros and tzatziki every day, we had it almost every day of the trip. The pools are great temperature and clean with plenty of sunbeds and not an insane amount of morning towel-reservation.

The staff is super hard working but always smiling, they greet you, make small talk and generally everyone treats the guests with so much friendliness and respect.
The evening programmes are fun, there was live music, disco, quiz. We really enjoyed the Aqua Zumba everyday, cheers to the animator guy leading it, great fella.

The sea is a 3-minute walk away if you get bored and also in the immediate vicinity of the hotel usually there are e-bikes you can rent via an app and get to the nearby caves or even Anthony Quinn's bay in a 30-min bike ride. We did lots of sports, we reserved the padel court several days, went for morning runs and even used the gym (which is a bit lacking with only 3 Technogym weightlifting machines and 2 cardio machines, but with some creativity you can get in a good workout!!!)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thanks to the fun water activities, AMAZING food (not Michelin star, more home cooking and focusing on flavor), heavenly desserts, inclusive cocktails, smiling staff, good music choice and wonderful weather.

What could be improved: -At the check in, they first asked for 60 more Euros even though booking.com specifically states that the price I paid includes all taxes and charges. When I started questioning and looking obviously confused, the front desk person suddenly changed their mind, saying that I do not need to pay since it is all done on Booking. This is a bit confusing, because two other people checked in right before us, and I overheard that they also were through Booking but had to pay the extra city tax or whatever. It seems like they charge extra if they can get away with it, but quickly backpedal if the guest suspects anything…

-Pools close at 6pm, I think 7pm would make more sense – it is still warm, sunny, bright outside.

-No hand soap in the bathroom, we had to step in to the shower for soap each time

-The gym was very sad, only 3 shabby machines for lifting (chest press, leg extension, cable lat pulldown, if anyone would like to know), 2 cardio machines, and a pair of 5 kg dumbbells.

Despite this I still rate the hotel 9/10, because overall, our experience there was just fantastic. However, due to the money thing I could not with good conscience go ahead with a 10/10.

Lovely staff and lovely restaurant. Family loved it. Nice amenities. Great for kids. Would go again.

What could be improved: There were many ants in our bedroom on our first night there. Cleaners cleaned the room only the day after though we called to complain. Ant problem was not fully dealt with for multiple days. Also no WiFi connection from our bedroom

  • Smith from United Kingdom – 22 September 2024 (9/10)

Hotel was very clean, room was on the small side but very comfortable. Staff were always pleasant and very hardworking. Food in the main restaurant was good. Plenty of space around the many pool areas. Food around the pool was good, pizzas tasty and lots of fresh salads etc. Good value for money..

What could be improved: Restaurant was a little on the small side and could get very busy. Food in the main restaurant wasn't always hot and quite often had to wait for dishes to be replaced. Nothing much to see outside of the hotel.

  • Laura from United Kingdom – 19 August 2024 (7/10)

Lovely rooms that are very clean, lots of drinks to choose from.

What could be improved: The food wasn’t great, I was hungry most nights as I didn’t like anything.

  • Elaine from United Kingdom – 9 October 2023 (9/10)

Amazing selection of food at every meal, drinks selection was great, pools were clean and whole area well looked after, staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, overall lovely stay!

What could be improved: Baby changing facilities only available in women's bathrooms, what if dad needs to change the baby? Mum deserves a break too!

  • Tom from United Kingdom – 5 October 2023 (8/10)

    Poolside,
Food was fantastic , Restaurant manager and his team are amazing , great variety every night
    Overall cleanliness was great

What could be improved: Gym could do with dumbbells, it’s the most simple basic bit of equipment and it hasn’t got it
When advertising twin room, you’ll get a sofa bed, wasn’t even made on arrival so we had to make it ourselves with sheets that weren’t big enough, bit strange

Taxis are very expensive , maybe a cycle hire within hotel

  • Samantha from United Kingdom – 1 June 2023 (9/10)

Great selection of food throughout the day! Close to lots of cool places to explore!

  • Jane from United Kingdom – 29 December 2022 (9/10)

    All inclusive lovely hotel

  • Eglė from Lithuania – 17 October 2022 (9/10)

clean, like a part of staff, just one women who cooks steaks (pancakes) is very rude.I asked her for freshly cooked meat, which she hold in hand, but she says take it from already cooked, and one second when i sad down at the table she put hot meat to everybody,Who does like that?!!

What could be improved: a noise is very heard when you are in room, you Can’t sleep long at the mornings; far away sea,the food is almost the same all days

  • Claire from United Kingdom – 8 October 2022 (9/10)

for the price we paid I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was new and modern. Facilities were good for what we wanted. Didnt get time to visit the spa but it looked really nice too. The food was simple but ample would of loved to have an omelette for breakfast we only stayed 3 nights so would imagine it would get a bit repetitive if it were longer. I like to stay in nice places and can be quite picky and I thought it was great so please don’t take too much notice of the bad reviews but I suppose everyone has their own opinion.

What could be improved: not having an omelette for breakfast!
