You know how sometimes you stumble across a place that feels like it was hiding in plain sight? That’s exactly what happened when I found Belvedere Medieval Villa tucked away on Ippodamou Street in Rhodes Town. I mean, you’re literally walking through cobblestone streets that have been there for centuries, and then there’s this gorgeous stone building that somehow manages to feel both ancient and completely comfortable at the same time.

What really got me was how they’ve actually preserved the medieval character without making you feel like you’re roughing it in a museum. The walls are thick limestone – and I’m talking properly thick, which means it stays blissfully cool even when it’s scorching outside in July. You can hear the history in these walls, honestly. There’s this wonderful quiet that settles over the place in the evenings, especially when you’re up on the terrace areas looking out over the old town rooftops. The whole vibe is sort of… well, it’s like staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home rather than a typical hotel.

The location is pretty much perfect if you want to actually experience Rhodes rather than just visit it. You’re a two-minute walk from the Palace of the Grand Master (which gets crazy crowded around 11am, so go early), and you can easily wander down to Sokratous Street for dinner without dealing with any of the cruise ship chaos near the harbor. I actually loved that you could duck back to the hotel for a midday break – something you really need in Rhodes during summer – then head back out refreshed for the evening. The staff seems to genuinely know the area too, not just the standard tourist recommendations. They pointed me toward this tiny family taverna on Pythagora Street that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be tricky in the old town (it always is), but they’ll sort that out for you, and honestly, once you’re there, you barely need to think about it since everything’s walkable. The 9.3 rating makes total sense when you experience the place – it’s that perfect balance of character, comfort, and location that’s surprisingly hard to find. You’re not paying resort prices, but you’re getting something way more memorable than your standard four-star experience.

  Amazing location in a quiet part of old town, away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to walk everywhere. You must park your car outside the old town walls and it took us 7 mins to walk in with our luggage. The host gave very clear instructions as to how to find and enter the property. Bellvedere is so cool! I love the medieval style, the arched windows and doorways. The bed was comfy and very clean. Loved staying here.

  A charming old house with modern living conditions: air conditioners, a washing machine, a refrigerator, a hood and an electric stove, several TVs, everything works. Comfortable beds in a national style. Each bedroom has a fireplace, which is very beautiful. The living room on the first floor is also very attractive to spend time there. As well as an open-air dining room in the courtyard of the well, among living plants under a date palm. We lived there for four days and it was an interesting experience of immersion in national identity. You can fantasize about life in the old days.
  
  What could be improved: Not all rooms in the house have wifi, but this does not bother everyone. On the first floor there is a message about the house's award in 2018. It is noticeable that the problems of international quarantine and economic downturn have affected the condition of the house. But it seems that it only takes a little to bring the house back to its former level: replace burnt-out light bulbs, remove broken dishes, clean rust on the brazier, add an iron and ironing board, put soap in the bathrooms. All this was once in excellent condition, but now forgotten. We sincerely wish Belvedere Medieval Villa the return of its former positions and prosperity.
