You know what struck me first about Bekos traditional house? It’s tucked away in Archangelos in this perfectly unassuming way – not trying to grab your attention from the main road, but once you find it, you immediately get why it has that 9.6 rating. I mean, that’s not a number you see thrown around lightly.

The place feels like someone’s grandmother actually lived there and decided to share it with travelers who appreciate the real thing. And I’m talking about the kind of traditional Greek house where the stone walls have that lived-in coolness even when it’s blazing hot outside, and the wooden shutters make this satisfying click when you close them for an afternoon nap. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing – everything’s been restored with this careful attention to keeping the authentic character while making sure you’ve got proper hot water pressure and wifi that actually works (honestly, half the “charming” places I’ve stayed skimp on the basics, but not here).

What really sets it apart is the location in Archangelos itself. Most people rush straight to Lindos or Rhodes town, but Archangelos has this genuine local rhythm that you just don’t get in the tourist centers. You can walk to the village center in a few minutes – there’s this little taverna where locals actually eat dinner at 10 PM like proper Greeks, and a bakery that does these incredible cheese pies that are still warm at 7 AM. The bus connections to the famous beaches are actually pretty decent from here too, but honestly, some of the best swimming spots are the ones locals pointed me to, just a short drive away where you won’t be fighting for a patch of sand.

The house itself has maybe four or five rooms (don’t quote me on that), but it never felt crowded even when it seemed full. There’s this lovely courtyard area where you end up chatting with other guests over coffee in the morning – you know, the kind of natural mingling that happens in smaller places. Parking was straightforward, which is more than I can say for some places in Rhodes. Check-in was refreshingly personal too – none of that sterile hotel desk experience, more like being welcomed into someone’s home who’s genuinely happy you’re there.

I’ll be honest, if you’re looking for a pool bar and room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to wake up to the sound of actual Greek village life starting its day, with the smell of jasmine drifting through your window and the confidence that you’re staying somewhere with real character – well, that 4-star rating feels like it’s measuring all the right things. Plus, at the end of your stay, you’ll have stories about the real Rhodes, not just the postcard version.

  Nice renovated traditional house in the village of Archaggelos. It looks like exactly as the pictures.
  Clean house with a big yuard with parking space. Not far from supermarket,pharmacy, and lot of taverns.
  Stella was very helpful and friendly.
  Highly recommend if you search for relaxing holidays.

  Stella met us to give us the keys and show us the apartment, despite us arriving very late due to a delayed flight. We let her know about our delay and she had no problem staying up to let us in. Also, whenever we had a question she replied really quickly and even came over within minutes to help us when we couldn't open the gate (due to a power cut). The location of the house is also great if you have a car to go and visit nearby beaches and towns.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing comes to mind – it was a great experience, despite the raging wildfires. We saw many people who were evacuated to Archangelos from other resorts, but fortunately there were no issues in Archangelos. When we got a bit worried and messaged Stella, she reassured us that she would let us know about any developments (although we were also receiving communication in English from the government – they were pinging phones about evacuations in certain areas).

  Private parking, very easy check in and check out, we got to move check out time for later which was nice. Stella is very kind host. House is very comfortable, with fully furnitured kitchen and close to some cafes and restaurants

  The location is very nice and quiet. The house offers you a unique feeling of living in a traditional Rhodes house. The terrace is very nice and spacey. Kitchen is very well equipped, has everything you need to cook a nice meal. The host is very friendly and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: The bedroom has a second main entrance with a window. If you want to take an afternoon nap or are a late weaker the sun shines so much you cannot get a good sleep. Some blonds would be helpful.

  Wir wurden vor dem traditionellen Haus von der sehr sympathischen Vermieterin Stella empfangen und es wurde uns das Haus geöffnet und alles gezeigt, was wir wissen mussten. Es handelt sich um ein komplett neu modernisiertes ehem. altes griechisches Haus mit Sitzmöglichkeit draußen und einer durch Mauer bzw. Tor gesicherten Parkmöglichkeit direkt vor dem Haus. Es wurde komplett umgebaut und modernisiert. Tolles großes modernes Bad mit Waschmaschine, große komplett ausgestattete Küche mit erfreulicherweise Filterkaffeemaschine, Kühlschrank mit Eisfach und Gaskochherd usw. usw., getrenntes Schlafzimmer, welches sich im September 2024 auch verdunkeln liess, wunderbares großes Bett! Großer kombinierter Wohn/Essraum, mit der in den typischen griechischen Häusern großflächigen Sitzmöglichkeit und offenem Kamin. In beiden Räumen war jeweils eine neue gut funktionierende Klimaanlage eingebaut (keine Extrakosten). Die Lage ist in der Altstadt von Archangelos; etwas schwer zu finden, wenn man sich in Archangelos nicht auskennt. Tipp: am besten an der Hauptstraße parken und dann zum Haus laufen und dann das Auto oder sonstiges Fahrzeug nachholen. Die Lage im größten Dorf von Rhodos ist super: Supermärkte, Tavernen, Restaurants usw. sind in wenigen Minuten zu Fuss zu erreichen. Der Friseursalon von Stella liegt gleich nebenan. Archangelos liegt in der Mitte von Rhodos und ist hervorragend für Touren in alle Richtungen geeignet.
  
  What could be improved: Leider wurde in den 9 Tagen, die wir im Bekos traditionel House waren, weder geputzt, noch die Bettwäsche gewechselt. Ob das in der Beschreibung stand, weiss ich aber nicht mehr. Da auch auch nur ein kleiner schwacher Handstaubsauger in der Unterkunft vorhanden war, haben wir uns mit dem Ausfegen der Räume geholfen. Toilettenpapier war leider auch nur in äußerst geringer Menge vorhanden; aber es hat uns nichts ausgemacht, da wir dieses in einem der nahe gelegenen Supermärkte kaufen konnten.
  
  Wofür die Gastgeberin von Bakos Traditionell nichts kann:
  
  Archangelos, das größte Dorf auf der Insel Rhodos ist sehr sepziell; selbst die Rhodier können das spezielle Griechisch der "Archangelities" kaum verstehen. Die Jugend und jung gebliebenen lokalen Griechen, sind vorwiegend am Wochenende mit überraschend stark motorisierten Mopeds (meist sehr laut), Motorrädern, Motorrollern und PKW abends bis spät in die Nacht auf der Dorf-Hauptstraße rauf und runter unterwegs, um zu sehen und gesehen zu werden, um Freunde und Bekannte zu treffen und ein Schwätzchen zu halten oder gemeinsam einen Frappee etc zu trinken. Hier herrscht also eine sehr spezielle laute und recht hektische Atmosphäre vor, die man mögen bzw. aushalten können muss. Man sollte zudem wissen, dass hier in Archangelos (immer) noch das klassische griechische traditionelle patriarchalisch geprägte Gesellschaftsleben vorherrscht: den ganzen Tag bis in die Nacht hinein sitzen überwiegend ältere oder alte Männer in den örtlichen Tavernen und Kafenions und schwatzen über Dies und Das. Sind aber Touristen gegenüber sehr freundlich. Griechische Paare und das jüngere, mittelaltrige Publikum sieht man äusserst selten und nur vereinzelt. Die ganz junge Jugend trifft sich in einigen wenigen Bars oder Cafés. Das weibliche Geschlecht macht sich sehr rar. Wenn, dann sieht man die sehr jungen Mädchen und Jungs, getrennt in Gruppen, häufig von der Schule oder abendlichen Sprachschule kommend, den Weg nach Hause nehmen.

  Die Gastgeberin ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Haus ist sehr gut ausgestattet, sauber und gemütlich. Die Lage ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge. Fußläufig sind Supermärkte, Cafés und gute Restaurants erreichbar.

  Stella war eine außergewöhnliche Gastgeberin, die uns stets mit Empfehlungen für Restaurants und Sightseeing zu Verfügung stand. Der Parkplatz vor der Tür ist Gold wert. Die Wohnung ist zentral gelegen, geräumig, hat eine stilvolle Einrichtung und eine zweckmäßige Ausstattung. Die Liegelanschaft im Wohnzimmer ist sehr gemütlich. Wir empfehlen Bekos Traditional uneingeschränkt weiter und werden sicherlich wieder kommen.
