You know what caught me off guard about Avra Beach Resort? It’s actually positioned perfectly on that stretch of Iraklidon Avenue where you get the best of both worlds – close enough to Rhodes town that you’re not stuck in resort bubble land, but far enough into Ixia that you’re really living that Aegean coastline vibe. I mean, most people think of Ixia as just another beach strip, but this place sits right where the windsurfers congregate (honestly, watching them from the terrace with morning coffee became my daily ritual).

The resort itself has that lived-in Mediterranean feel that you can’t fake – I’m talking about the kind of place where the marble floors actually look better with a bit of wear, and the staff remembers your drink order by day three. The rooms face either the sea or the gardens, and here’s something nobody tells you: the garden-view rooms are actually quieter if you’re sensitive to the sound of waves and wind. The sea-view ones though… well, you wake up to windsurfers skimming across water that’s this impossible shade of blue-green. The pool area gets busy around 11 AM when families start filtering down, but early morning and late afternoon? You’ve got it mostly to yourself.

What really sold me on this place was how it handles the details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere for more than a quick weekend. The parking situation is sorted – no circling around looking for spots like you do in the old town. The beach access is direct, none of that walking-through-three-hotels nonsense, and the loungers aren’t crammed together like sardines. Plus, and this might sound small but trust me it’s not, the WiFi actually works throughout the property. I spent a few mornings working from the lobby area (those big windows facing the garden are perfect for laptop work) and never had connection issues. The breakfast spread leans heavily Greek – proper feta, local honey, fresh bread that’s still warm – though they do the international hotel standards too if that’s more your speed. Location-wise, you’re maybe a 10-minute drive from Mandraki Harbor if you want to explore Rhodes proper, but honestly, some evenings I just wandered down to the little tavernas along the Ixia waterfront instead. Less touristy, better prices, and you can walk back along the beach path with the sound of the waves doing that rhythmic thing against the pebbles.

  buss stationen var nära, maten var fräsch, flera bartenders och snabba drinkar.
  
  What could be improved: toaletterna var inte så fräscha och välstädade samt alla solstolarna på stranden var upptagna. Det fanns inte heller Bubbelbad/jacuzzi enligt booking.com när vi frågade receptionen. Massage stolarna och en del av maten och aktiverna kostade även extra.
