Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Arch Villa? It’s tucked away in this quiet corner of Fanes where you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – but honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, when you’re dealing with a 4-star place that’s pulling a 9 rating, you expect something special, but this felt different from the get-go. The owner greeted me personally at check-in (around 3 PM on a Tuesday, so not exactly peak chaos), and you could tell he actually cares about the place rather than just running through the motions.
The rooms have this interesting blend of traditional Greek elements with modern touches that actually work – I’m talking about hand-painted ceramics next to sleek bathroom fixtures, not some tacky tourist trap aesthetic. My balcony overlooked these rolling hills that locals call the “green fingers” because of how the valleys cut between them, and honestly, I spent way more time out there than I planned. The Wi-Fi was solid (tested it during a work call), and the air conditioning didn’t sound like a dying helicopter, which… well, you know how that goes in some Greek hotels. One small thing though – the shower pressure was just okay, not amazing, but the water stayed hot even when I tested it at 6 AM.
What really sold me on this place was discovering the little taverna about a 10-minute walk down the hill where apparently half the Arch Villa guests end up each night. The hotel staff doesn’t officially recommend it (probably because they serve breakfast), but the guy at reception gave me this knowing look when I asked about dinner spots and just said “ask Maria at the blue door.” Turns out Maria’s been feeding visitors for thirty years and makes this lamb dish that – look, I’m not usually the guy raving about food, but it was legitimately incredible. The whole area stays pretty quiet after 9 PM, which was perfect for sleeping with the windows open to catch that mountain breeze. Parking was free and easy right outside, no hunting around narrow streets like you get in some Greek towns. If you’re planning to visit, late spring or early fall seem ideal – I was there in October and the weather was perfect, plus the local hiking trails were still accessible before winter closes some of the higher paths. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because leaving feels premature.

Die Unterkunft war Teil eines alten charmanten griechischen Dorfes. Die Einheimischen waren alle sehr freundlich. Wir waren gefühlt die einzigen Touristen. Das hat es so besonders gemacht
What could be improved: es war alles sehr zufriedenstellend.
