You know what’s funny about mountain hotels in Greece? Most people think of the islands first, but honestly, Anassa Mountain House up in Émbonas might be one of the best-kept secrets on Rhodes. I mean, when you’re winding up those hairpin turns through the vineyards – and trust me, there are a lot of them – you start wondering if your GPS is playing tricks on you. But then you spot this beautiful stone building nestled into the hillside, and suddenly it all makes sense.

The thing about Émbonas is that it’s not just some random mountain village they stuck a hotel in. This is serious wine country, like the kind of place where the old guys in the kafeneio actually know which vineyard produced the bottle you’re drinking. Anassa sits right in the thick of it, and from your room (well, depending on which side you’re on), you can see these terraced slopes that have been growing grapes since, I don’t know, probably ancient times. What really got me was how quiet it gets at night – no traffic, no club music drifting up from the coast, just the occasional goat bell and maybe some cicadas doing their thing. The air actually smells different up here too, sort of crisp and pine-scented, which is a welcome change from the sunscreen-and-souvlaki vibe down in the tourist areas.

The owners clearly know what they’re doing – this isn’t some slapped-together boutique place trying too hard to be Instagram-worthy. The rooms feel properly Greek without being kitschy about it, and the stone walls actually keep things cool during the day (which matters more than you’d think in July). Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and they gave me solid recommendations for hiking trails that weren’t just the obvious tourist routes. Actually, the woman at reception told me about this little path that leads to an old monastery ruins – took about forty minutes, but the views over the Aegean were absolutely worth the scramble. Parking’s easy enough, though the driveway is a bit steep if you’re not used to mountain driving. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise when you’re trying to disconnect from everything. If you’re looking for a base to explore the interior of Rhodes – the real Rhodes, not just the beach resort version – this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity that’s getting harder to find.

  We absolutely loved our stay at Anassa! The little house was 100 times nicer than on the pictures (which are already stunning) – especially the pool is wonderful during the summer heat! We spend endless nights on the little terrace eating olives and drinking wine from the local farmers in town. We would always come back when in Rhodos!

  Ontzettend compleet verblijf. Hele vriendelijke en behulpzame hosts. Het huisje is van alle gemakken voorzien en gelegen in een klein en gemoedelijk dorpje met heel aantal restaurants, supermarkt en bakker op 2 minuten loopafstand.

  Το διαμέρισμα είναι ολοκαίνουργιο. Μοντέρνο και παραδοσιακό παράλληλα. Υπήρχαν όλα τα απαραίτητα διαθέσιμα, από νερό στο ψυγείο ( όπου κάπου αλλού δεν βάζουν ), μέχρι τσάι και καφέ. Μεγάλο συν οι παντόφλες μιας χρήσης. Τηλεόραση με netflix και στους δύο χώρους. Στο τραπέζι βρήκαμε φρούτα και κρασί για το καλοσώρισμα. Οι οικοδεσπότες επικοινώνησαν μαζί μας μια μέρα πριν την άφιξη αλλά και κατά τη διάρκεια διαμονής μας για οτιδήποτε χρειαζόμασταν. Την επόμενη φορά θα προτιμήσουμε καλοκαίρι για να κάνουμε και μια βουτιά στην πισίνα!!! Πολλά μπράβο στον Βασίλη και στην Βασιλική!!! 😁😁😁

  Η εμπειρία ήταν απλώς μαγευτική! Από την πρώτη στιγμή που φτάσαμε, νιώσαμε τη ζεστασιά και την φροντίδα των ιδιοκτητών. Συνδυάζει την ηρεμία της φύσης με την πολυτέλεια, κάνοντάς το, το τέλειο μέρος για απόδραση. Το σπίτι ήταν άνετο και έχει όλα όσα χρειάζεστε. Η ατμόσφαιρα είναι τόσο φιλόξενη, που νιώθεις σαν στο σπίτι σου. Ο χώρος είναι ιδανικός για χαλάρωση ενώ οι λεπτομέρειες στη διακόσμηση και η ποιότητα των υπηρεσιών ξεχωρίζουν. Σίγουρα θα επιστρέψουμε για μια ακόμα μοναδική εμπειρία!

  Wunderbar gelegenes Haus im Ortskern von Embonas. Eingerichtet mit allem was man braucht inkl. privaten Parkplatz und einem kleinen Pool. Wir kommen gerne wieder.
