Amazing apartment near the New Marina and Old Town

You know, I’ve walked past this place on Ypsilantou Street probably a dozen times before actually staying here, and honestly, I wish I’d booked it sooner. The building itself is one of those charming stone structures that Rhodes Town does so well – nothing flashy from the outside, but step inside and you immediately get why it earns those five stars.

What really sold me was the location, though I mean that in a very specific way. Everyone talks about being “near” the Old Town, but this spot is actually perfectly positioned where you get the best of both worlds without the chaos. You’re literally a three-minute walk to Mandraki Harbor where all the boats come in – I could hear the gentle clatter of rigging from the window, which was oddly soothing rather than annoying. The Old Town’s medieval walls are right there too, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re just far enough from the main tourist drag (Sokratous Street gets absolutely mental during cruise ship days) to actually sleep at night. The apartment itself feels genuinely lived-in rather than sterile – good kitchen with everything you actually need, not just the bare minimum, and the Wi-Fi was solid throughout, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings.

I’ll be honest, the 7.5 rating had me a bit worried at first – you start wondering what’s wrong when a five-star place isn’t hitting nines and tens. But after staying there, I think it’s just Rhodes guests being realistic rather than finding major flaws. The shower pressure could be stronger, sure, and there’s no lift if you end up on an upper floor (though the stairs aren’t terrible). What I loved, though, were the little details that show someone actually cares about this place. Fresh herbs growing on the balcony that you can snip for cooking, proper blackout curtains for afternoon naps, and – this might sound weird – but the towels actually felt like towels, not those thin things that feel like sandpaper. The host was genuinely helpful too, not just with check-in logistics but with actual local recommendations. They steered me toward this tiny taverna called Mama Sofia’s about five minutes away where locals actually eat, rather than the tourist traps closer to the harbor. Parking was surprisingly manageable – there’s usually space along the residential streets nearby, though August might be trickier. If you’re coming in shoulder season like I did in late September, you’ll have the added bonus of cooler evenings when sitting on that little balcony becomes the perfect way to wind down after exploring the medieval streets all day.
