Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Alonia Summerhouse in Fanes – the name sounds almost too quaint, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked into this quiet corner of Fanes where you can still hear the cicadas over any traffic noise, which is saying something for a Greek island location. The building itself has that weathered stone look that feels authentic rather than trying-too-hard rustic, and when you walk up to the entrance, there’s this subtle scent of jasmine that’s not overpowering but just… there.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to actually know the area – not just the touristy stuff everyone pushes, but like, they told me about this little bakery that opens at 5 AM where locals grab their morning coffee, and which beaches get crowded by 10 versus the ones that stay peaceful most of the day. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, but it’s the details that matter here. The air conditioning actually works (I mean, really works, not that half-hearted Mediterranean attempt), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a cloud that deflated overnight. The bathroom situation is surprisingly spacious – I could actually move around without bumping into everything, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re experiencing real Greek island life without being completely isolated from everything. You’re close enough to walk to the main village area when you want dinner or supplies, but far enough that you’re not dealing with scooter noise at 6 AM or drunk tourists stumbling past your window. Parking was straightforward too, which – trust me – isn’t always a given in these old village areas. What I appreciated most was that it felt lived-in rather than sterile. The common areas had books that looked actually read, not just placed there for decoration, and there were these comfortable spots where you could sit with morning coffee and watch the locals heading off to work. It’s the kind of place where you might end up staying an extra day just because you’re not quite ready to leave that peaceful rhythm behind.

  Lovely house with a beautiful garden, located between fields and a short 15 minute walk away from a nice beach.
  Our host was great and the communication was always fast and friendly.
  The Wifi at the apartment is great, you can easily work with it.
  Also a great apartment for kite surfers.

  Vom ersten Moment an haben wir uns wie zuhause gefühlt. Das fing beim herzlichen Empfang an bis zur Unterkunft selbst. Das Haus und der Garten ließ keine Wünsche offen. Ruhig, nah am Strand, mit grünem Garten, toller Terrasse auf der wir abends wunderschöne Sonnenuntergängen genossen haben.

  Das Ferienhaus bietet viel Platz und Abwechslung, insbesondere für Kinder. Strände und Ausflugsziele sind in der Nähe sowie Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Die Besitzer sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Sehr empfehlenswert.

  Sehr gute Lage, sehr dicht zum Meer. Sehr nette Gastgeberin! Alles sehr unkompliziert. Es ist sogar eine Schlüsselbox vorhanden, so dass die Anreise zu jeder Zeit unkompliziert war. Einfach zu finden, parken gut möglich. Wir kommen gern wieder!
  
  What could be improved: In der Gegend gibt es sehr viele Zikaden. Das ist üblich in der Region, führt aber tagsüber zu einer hohen Geräuschkulisse im Garten.

  die Lage war für uns genau das, was wir gesucht haben! Gelegen in Fanes an der immer etwas angenehm windigen Westküste, weit ab vom All-inklusive-Tourismus… Nicht direkt im Ort aber kurze Wege zu allen Einrichtungen des täglichen Bedarfs, kurzer Fußweg zum Meer, Olivenhaine, Zitrus- und Feigenbäume, abgelegene Badebucht, traumhafte Sonnenuntergänge, freundliche Menschen. Ruhe, Entspannung pur. Ganz besonders hat uns der liebevolle Empfang gefallen! Da wir erst abends angekommen sind und Katerina leider keine Zeit hatte uns direkt zu begrüßen, hat sie uns eine frische Spinat-Feta-Quiche gebacken und bereitgestellt!!! Für das Frühstück gab es selbstgemachte Feigenmarmelade, Brötchen, Kaffee, frische Trauben und Getränke (Wasser, Orangensaft…). Wahnsinn, wir sind noch nie so verwöhnt worden! Außerdem hat sie uns am Abreisetag zugestanden, ohne Aufpreis noch bis früh abends im Haus zu bleiben. Traurigerweise sind uns auch drei Sachen zu Bruch gegangen (u.A. bei der Moskitojagd), auch das war unproblematisch. Selten habe ich so unkomplizierte, liebevolle und gastfreundliche Ferienwohnungs-Vermieter gehabt! Wir kommen gerne wieder und empfehlen das Alonia summerhouse auf jeden Fall allen, die etwas Abgeschiedenheit und Authentizität lieben und raten aber für weiteren eigenen Mückenschutz vorzusorgen, obgleich alle Fenster und Türen mit Moskitonetzen versehen sind. Das ist eben Natur pur.

  Eine tolle Gastgeberin, die uns herzlich in Empfang nahm. Das Haus ist mit allem notwendigen ausgestattet. Ein sehr großer Garten bietet viel Platz, mit mehreren kleinen Terassen. Die Klimaanlagen in den beiden Schlafzimmern schafft Abkühlung.
  Ein gut sortierter Supermarkt im Nachbarort hat alles Notwendige. Sehr schöne Tavernen an der Küste Richtung Süden.
