First Impressions

Pulling up to Al Mare Apartments, the first thing you notice is how close you actually are to the water. I mean, the name says it all — “al mare” is Italian for “by the sea,” and honestly, it delivers on that promise pretty much immediately. The place has a relaxed, unpretentious feel to it, which suits the whole Afandou vibe perfectly. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t, and that’s kind of refreshing.

Location & Neighborhood

Afandou Beach is one of those spots on Rhodes that hasn’t been completely swallowed up by the big resort crowds — it’s quieter than Faliraki, less polished than Lindos, and all the better for it. The apartments sit right on the beach road, so you’re genuinely just steps from the sand. Couples especially seem to love it here, and you can see why — there’s something about the pace of this stretch of coast that just slows everything down. The location has been rated 8.8 by recent guests, which, honestly, tracks completely with what you experience when you’re there.

The Apartments

These are self-catering apartments rather than a traditional hotel setup, so you get your own space to do things at your own pace — make a coffee in the morning, sit on the balcony, not rush anywhere. That kind of flexibility is genuinely underrated when you’re on a longer trip. The setup is simple and functional, nothing overly fussy, which works well when the beach is basically your living room anyway. You’re not spending much time indoors, and the apartments seem designed with that in mind.

Getting There & Parking

One thing worth knowing — there’s free private parking on site, which sounds like a small detail until you’ve spent twenty minutes circling a Greek village looking for somewhere to leave a hire car. If you’re planning to explore the island (and you should, Rhodes has a lot going on beyond the beach), having a car and a guaranteed spot to park it makes a real difference. Afandou itself is well placed for day trips, sitting roughly in the middle of the island’s east coast, so you can head north toward Rhodes Town or south toward Lindos without it being a big deal either way.

  Excellent location by the sea with clear water and long beach for wolk, well-equipped rooms with balcony, every room have amazing sea view with sunrise, very clean was everything, every second day cleaning lady changed bed sheet and towels, the owners was exceptionally friendly and kind, you can get excellent food at the restaurant, bar or at big yard, higly recommend

  Apartments were situated in beautiful tranquil grounds containing seating and loungers where you could sit and relax. The cafe sold delicious food, coffees and drinks. Georgiou the owner was very kind and always available and helpful

  Our stay was truly exceptional! Everything was spotless, and the staff was amazing—friendly and attentive to every detail. The host was the best, waiting for us until the early morning hours due to our flight delay without any hesitation. The location is perfect, with the beach just a minute away across the street, making it incredibly convenient. The café was fantastic, with great coffee and a beautiful ambiance at night. The view from our place was spectacular! We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and will definitely be coming back!

  This is the second time we have come to this hotel. When we first came 2 years ago, we said we would stay in the Afantou area and the locals said that one of the most beautiful seas and beaches in Rhodes is in the Afantou area. We really loved both the sea and the beach. The temperature of the water and the clarity of the sea are wonderful! As for the hotel, it has really delicious food and a friendly staff. They are very helpful in every way. Both our previous visit and this one, we were very pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the basic supplies in the rooms, there was nothing missing. Everything in the rooms was fully functional and clean. Thank you very much for everything.

  Everything was amazing. Al Mare is located in beautiful place with sea next to the street. Gorgeous view from balcony welcomed us every morning. Owners are really kind and helpful. Their hospitality is on very high level. They recommended us a nice taverns with delicious local food and the best places on the island. If we will go on Rhodes, for sure we will choose Al Mare Apartments.

  A very nice hotel in an unbeatable location right on the seaside and at the end of a nice beachside promenade. There is also a beautiful, spacious and peaceful garden/cafe, which is never crowded, they make great freddo capuccino and usually some nice lounge-chill-out music is playing, just right for reading and watching the sea. We really enjoyed our stay at Al Mare, this was our third time there and already planning to return next year.
