You know what really struck me about Al Mare Apartments? It’s not trying to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well. Located right on Afandou Beach (which, let me tell you, is still one of those stretches of Rhodes coastline that doesn’t feel completely overrun), this place has that relaxed Greek island vibe without the chaos you get in Rhodes Town or some of the busier resort areas.

The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I mean, you’re not talking luxury resort here, but they’re thoughtfully laid out with proper kitchenettes that you’ll actually want to use. The balconies are where you’ll spend most of your time anyway, especially in the evenings when that Mediterranean breeze kicks in. I loved how you could hear the waves from most of the rooms, but it’s not that overwhelming crash-against-rocks sound… more like a gentle rhythm that actually helps you sleep. The area stays pretty quiet too – Afandou isn’t really a party destination, which works perfectly if you’re looking to decompress. Parking was straightforward (always a concern on Greek islands), and the staff genuinely seemed to know the area well. They pointed me toward this little taverna about ten minutes down the beach road that I never would’ve found otherwise – the kind of place where locals actually eat, not just tourists.

What really sets Al Mare apart is the location’s sweet spot between accessibility and authenticity. You’re close enough to explore the medieval city of Rhodes (about 20 minutes by car), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds every day. Afandou Beach itself is this lovely mix of pebbles and sand, and the water stays relatively calm – perfect for actually swimming instead of just wading in and taking photos. The beach stretches for miles in both directions, so even during busy summer months, you can find your own space. There’s something about the light here too, especially in the late afternoon when the sun hits those rolling hills behind the coast… it’s the kind of scene that makes you understand why people fall in love with Greek islands. I’d definitely come back – it’s one of those places where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re missing out on anything important.

  Excellent location by the sea with clear water and long beach for wolk, well-equipped rooms with balcony, every room have amazing sea view with sunrise, very clean was everything, every second day cleaning lady changed bed sheet and towels, the owners was exceptionally friendly and kind, you can get excellent food at the restaurant, bar or at big yard, higly recommend

  Apartments were situated in beautiful tranquil grounds containing seating and loungers where you could sit and relax. The cafe sold delicious food, coffees and drinks. Georgiou the owner was very kind and always available and helpful

  Our stay was truly exceptional! Everything was spotless, and the staff was amazing—friendly and attentive to every detail. The host was the best, waiting for us until the early morning hours due to our flight delay without any hesitation. The location is perfect, with the beach just a minute away across the street, making it incredibly convenient. The café was fantastic, with great coffee and a beautiful ambiance at night. The view from our place was spectacular! We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and will definitely be coming back!

  This is the second time we have come to this hotel. When we first came 2 years ago, we said we would stay in the Afantou area and the locals said that one of the most beautiful seas and beaches in Rhodes is in the Afantou area. We really loved both the sea and the beach. The temperature of the water and the clarity of the sea are wonderful! As for the hotel, it has really delicious food and a friendly staff. They are very helpful in every way. Both our previous visit and this one, we were very pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the basic supplies in the rooms, there was nothing missing. Everything in the rooms was fully functional and clean. Thank you very much for everything.

  Everything was amazing. Al Mare is located in beautiful place with sea next to the street. Gorgeous view from balcony welcomed us every morning. Owners are really kind and helpful. Their hospitality is on very high level. They recommended us a nice taverns with delicious local food and the best places on the island. If we will go on Rhodes, for sure we will choose Al Mare Apartments.

  A very nice hotel in an unbeatable location right on the seaside and at the end of a nice beachside promenade. There is also a beautiful, spacious and peaceful garden/cafe, which is never crowded, they make great freddo capuccino and usually some nice lounge-chill-out music is playing, just right for reading and watching the sea. We really enjoyed our stay at Al Mare, this was our third time there and already planning to return next year.
