Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Afandou Bay Village Resort – honestly, the name sounds a bit generic and I’d never heard of Afantou before booking. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Rhodes’ east coast, about a 20-minute drive from Rhodes Town, and I mean properly tucked away. You’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds or the party scene from Faliraki here. The resort sits right where the village meets this gorgeous stretch of pebble beach, and there’s something really authentic about how it doesn’t try to block out the local life happening around it.

The rooms are solid – not Instagram-perfect, but comfortable in that lived-in Mediterranean way. Mine had this little balcony that looked out toward the sea through some pine trees, and honestly, I spent more time out there with morning coffee than I expected to. The air conditioning actually works (which, if you’ve traveled in Greece in summer, you know isn’t always guaranteed), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a marshmallow. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’ll hear the waves and maybe some cicadas, but no thumping music or road noise. The WiFi is decent too, though it gets a bit spotty during peak hours when everyone’s uploading their sunset photos.

Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart though – the staff genuinely seems to know the area. When I asked about hiking spots, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure. He actually drew me a little map to this trail that starts near the Tsambika Monastery and told me the best time to go (early morning, before it gets blazing hot). The hotel’s restaurant is pretty good – I mean, it’s not going to win any awards, but they do a solid Greek breakfast and their fish is fresh. You’re also walking distance to a handful of family tavernas in the village where locals actually eat, which is worth way more than any fancy hotel restaurant. The beach itself is mostly pebbles, so bring water shoes if you’re picky about that sort of thing, but the water is incredibly clear and it never felt crowded. Parking is free and easy, which saved me the headache I had in other parts of Rhodes. Look, it’s not a luxury resort and it’s not trying to be – but if you want a genuine taste of Greek island life without the tourist circus, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

Reviews

  • Sylvia from Australia – 18 June 2025 (7/10)

Close to the beach, parking on-site. Good distance to other places of interest. Friendly & attentive staff. Clean rooms. Meals package is a great incentive for families.

What could be improved: No bottle of water in fridge. Kettle & cups in room but no tea & coffee etc to make anything with. Meals package is a great offer and has a variety to choose from. However, some meals are not always kept hot & the variety is a bit odd. Fresh watermelon, oranges & apricots were always delicious though.

Staff friendly, very clean and modern. Also very close to the beach

  • Jenni from Finland – 11 May 2025 (8/10)

Ruoka oli hyvää, vaihtoehtoja runsaasti. Henkilökunta suurimmalta osin erittäin ystävällinen.

Allasalue ei kovin iso, mutta riittävä. Vähän likainen.

What could be improved: Alliance juomat pahoin lantrattu vedellä
