Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Rhodes Town, and Aelios City House on Apolloniou Rodiou street is one of those spots that just gets it right without trying too hard. When you first walk up, it’s got this understated elegance thing going on – not flashy like some of the newer hotels closer to Mandraki Harbor, but you can tell someone actually cares about the details here.

The location is honestly pretty smart. You’re tucked away on a quieter street (which means you’ll actually sleep at night, unlike those poor souls staying right on the main tourist drags), but you’re still just a few minutes’ walk from all the action in the Old Town. I mean, you can literally walk to the Palace of the Grand Master in about eight minutes, and there’s this little bakery around the corner that does these incredible cheese pies – the owner’s been there forever and he’ll remember your order after the second day. The hotel staff actually knows about these kinds of local gems too, which is refreshing since half the places I’ve stayed just hand you a generic tourist map and call it a day.

What really won me over though was how they handle the little things that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Rhodes Town, not some sprawling resort – but they’re thoughtfully laid out with decent storage space and these great shutters that actually block out the morning light if you want to sleep in. The air conditioning works properly (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), and honestly, the shower pressure is better than what I have at home. There’s this nice courtyard area where you can have breakfast without feeling like you’re on display for every passerby, and they’ve got proper coffee, not that instant stuff some places try to pass off. The Wi-Fi actually reaches the rooms too, which… well, let’s just say that’s not always a given around here.

I will say the building itself shows its age a bit – you’ll hear footsteps from upstairs sometimes, and the elevator is one of those charming old European ones that fits maybe two people and their luggage if they’re very friendly. But that’s sort of part of the character, you know? Plus the front desk folks are genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions. When I had an issue with a late ferry arrival, they sorted out my late check-in without making me feel like I was inconveniencing them.

For a four-star place, it delivers on what matters without the pretentious extras that just bump up the price. You’re paying for a solid, comfortable base in one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe, not for marble lobbies or turndown service. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with personality rather than just booking a room, this place actually feels like Rhodes – not like it could be anywhere.

  Locatie was erg goed, dichtbij winkels en restaurants en strand.
  
  What could be improved: Toegang tot appartement was slecht door te veel bloempotten waardoor je gebukt onder het balkon moest lopen om bij de trap te komen.
